In Typical Bradford Fashion, raindrops on Saturday didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as Kids & Cancer raised nearly $60,000. The money came from the 17th annual motorcycle run – which attracted 180 bikers – as well as the End of Run Bash on Mechanic Street. Bridget Pascarella won this year’s Harley of Hope, a 2014 Harley Switchback. The benefit run has raised about a quarter of a million dollars since its inception. Now that’s typical Bradford. Governor Tom Corbett on Tuesday signed a bill that authorizes the sale of the Bradford facility, as well as the Ridgway Armory, the Ridgway Weekend Training Site and about a dozen other sites throughout the state. Before last night’s Bradford City Council meeting Mark Austin of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs gave a brief presentation about how the sale will work and said they are hoping whoever buys the building will not want to change the outside of the building. The latest appraisal of the 101-year-old building says fair market value is $63,000. For more information you can go to dmva.state.pa.us or contact Bradford City Hall. The Case Collectors Reunion continues today on Owens Way, and several other events are also planned. The FOP craft & vendor fair starts at 10 a.m. at the Bradford Township Lions Club. It also includes demonstrations by area police and fire departments, a fly-in by a Stat MedEvac helicopter and the world famous Bradford Township Lions Club chicken barbecue. Registration starts at 9:45 in the Zippo parking lot on Congress Street. One of the stops will be the Kinzua Sky Walk. This is the anniversary of the day a tornado knocked down the Kinzua Viaduct. After the run, a block party will be held on Mechanic Street, where the winner of the Harley of Hope will be announced. You don’t have to participate in the motorcycle run to attend the block party. Two overlooks in the Allegheny National Forest offer fantastic views of the Allegheny Reservoir and are also a part of a great trail system right in the midst of Trail Central. What makes the Allegheny National Forest rock even more is that it’s free and open to travelers from all over, welcoming them to northcentral Pennsylvania. Rimrock Overlook, located off Route 59, is a magnificent rock outcrop that offers a breathtaking view 200 feet above the Kinzua Creek arm of the Allegheny Reservoir. But Rimrock offers much more than views. A short trail system takes you down a rock staircase through a narrow crevasse and past spectacular cliffs boulders and deep fractures that emit cold air. This area is also a hotspot for viewing the mountain laurel, the state flower of Pennsylvania, in full bloom the end of June.
