A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect until 1 o’clock Monday afternoon for the entire region. We could see 6 to 10 inches of snow, along with freezing rain. The National Weather Service in State College says patchy light snow will develop across the area at around 9 a.m., and will become steadier and heavier after dark. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 10 o’clock this morning to 1 o’clock tomorrow morning in Pennsylvania, and from 1 o’clock this afternoon to 1 o’clock tomorrow morning in New York. The National Weather Service in State College and Buffalo says we’ll see light snow and sleet, changing to light freezing rain or freezing drizzle. We could see up to an inch of snow with around a tenth of an inch of ice. The NWS says drivers should be aware of slick roads and hazardous travel conditions. A Lake Effect Snow Advisory will go into effect late this afternoon and go through Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service in State College says we can expect the snow to start at around 5 o’clock and end at around 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, but the heaviest snow is likely between 8 o’clock tonight and 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. The northwest part of McKean County – including Bradford, Lewis Run and Ludlow – could see between 4 and 7 inches of snow. The southeastern part of the county will see 2 or 3 inches. A Lake Effect Snow Warning will be in effect in Warren County during the same time period. Parts of that county could get up to 10 inches of snow. A flood watch is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon in McKean, Warren and Elk counties in Pennsylvania, and through Sunday night in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegany counties in New York. The National Weather Service says heavy rain, along with snow melt, will contribute to potential flooding, with excessive runoff leading to significant rises on rivers, streams and creeks across the Allegheny Basin. In Pennsylvania the flood watch is from noon Saturday to 6 o’clock Sunday night. In New York, it’s from 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon until 10 o’clock Sunday night. A line of severe thunderstorms raced through McKean County this afternoon, pounding Relay for Life participants at Pitt-Bradford with rain and wind, and temporarily flooding Congress Street in the city. In Annin Township, the storms knocked down trees and power lines, closing Annin Creek Road. In Chautauqua County, Pomfret, Brocton and Portland all saw flooding. The American Red Cross set up a shelter at Brocton Central School to house residents of 45 evacuated homes. The shelter was closed late this afternoon after the people were told they could return to their homes. The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in Centre County on Thursday. The tornado was at least 1½ miles long and 75 yards wide with winds reaching 100 mph. The National Weather Service says heavy downpours will produce rainfall rates exceeding 2 to 3 inches an hour. Widespread storm totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with 3 inches possible where slow moving storms drop higher amounts. Flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas is likely, and rapid rises on streams is possible. Once again, a flash flood watch is in effect until 2 o’clock Friday morning for the entire region. The National Weather Service has issues a freezing rain advisory for Cameron and Potter counties starting Friday morning. A brief period of freezing rain is expected at around sunrise, and could cause a glaze of ice on trees, sidewalks and other colder objects. Meteorologists say road surfaces may stay warm enough to keep ice from forming on all but bridges and overpasses. UPDATE: A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING is in effect until 2:45 p.m. for Shinglehouse, Port Allegany, Roulette, Keating Summit, Genesee, Coudersport, Denton Hill State Park. The National Weather Service in State College has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 o'clock tonight for McKean, Elk, Cameron, Jefferson, Warren, Forest and Potter counties. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued the warning for Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegany counties until 7 p.m. Some of the storms could produce large hail and strong wind gusts. The National Weather Service in State College has confirmed that a small tornado touched down near Ayers Hill in Potter County on Wednesday. A team from the National Weather Service and Potter County Emergency Management Agency surveyed the wind damage in the Ayers Hill area on Friday. The tornado, an EF0, began near the intersection of Cherry Tree Lane and First Fork Road just west of Ayers Hill. The tornado then moved east northeast intermittently touching down for about a half mile before lifting near Gates Hill Road. A large trailer was turned over by the wind, damaging two vehicles. Four homes had minor roof damage, with two of those roofs partially torn off. About 30 trees were downed or damaged. Wildfire danger is elevated until 8 o’clock tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The Red Flag Warning is for all of Central Pennsylvania, as well as Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Allegany and Southern Erie counties in New York. It’ll be a windy day in the Twin Tiers. A high wind warning remains in effect until 10 o’clock tonight in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. A wind advisory remains in effect for McKean, Warren, Elk, Potter, Cameron and Clearfield counties until 7 o’clock tonight. The National Weather Service says a high wind warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 miles an hour are expected for at least an hour, with gusts as high as 60 miles an hour. In the warning areas, people can expect scattered power outages and downed trees and tree limbs. Minor property damage is also likely. In the advisory areas, gusts could be as high as 50 miles an hour. Broken tree branches are likely, and they could cause power outages. A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until early this evening in McKean, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Warren Counties. In Pennsylvania, another two to six inches of snow is possible, with the higher amounts to the west of Warren. Storm totals will end up ranging from as little as six inches over eastern McKean County to more than two feet across the snowbelt of northwest Warren County, according to the National Weather Service in State College. The National Weather Service in Buffalo says blowing and drifting snow will also be a problem for motorists with visibility as low as a quarter of a mile at times. The combination of locally heavy Lake Effect snow and wind gusts of up to 25 miles an hour will result in periods of whiteout conditions and drifting snow.
