Gerrit Cole struck out 10 batters in 8 1/3 innings to lead the Pirates to a 4-1 win over the Mets Friday night. He gave up only six hits – all singles – and lowered his ERA to 2.05. Chris Stewart had two hits and an RBI for Pittsburgh. Jung Ho Kang, Pedro Alvarez and Gregory Polanco also drove in runs as the Pirates dropped New York to 7-13 on the road. Prince Fielder smacked two homers, drove in four runs and helped the Texas Rangershold off the New York Yankees 10-9 Friday night for their third straight win. The Yankees have lost four in a row and eight of nine. Brandon Moss homered and drove in three runs, while Carlos Carrasco allowed two runs in six innings to help the Indians earn a 7-3 win over Cincinnati. It was Cleveland’s fourth win in a row and sixth in eight games. Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1. The Phillies have lost three of four after winning six in a row. The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Yankees 2-0 this afternoon in Grapefruit League play in Bradenton, Florida. Pirates pitching gave up just four hits. Former first round pick Daniel Moskos worked a hitless ninth for the Pirates. It was a Yankees traveling squad that did not include Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez or Mark Teixeira. The Pirates play again Wednesday at McKechnie Field when the Minnesota Twins visit at 1:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf is scheduled to make his first spring training start. A split squad Pirates team split a pair of games today. In one game, the Bucs lost to the Orioles 6-4. In the other game, they beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5. The Pirates are 2-2 in spring training. The Pirates are scheduled to play the Yankees in Bradenton at 1:05 on Tuesday. James McDonald is expected to start for Pittsburgh against New York’s Phil Hughes. The New York State Commission on Public Integrity has fined Gov. David Paterson $62,000 for accepting five tickets to the first game of the 2009 World Series at Yankee Stadium. Paterson testified that he always intended to pay for the tickets. The commission says that is "false" and contradicts his staff, the Yankees and common sense. He paid for four of the tickets several days later. Paterson has said it was his duty to attend the opening series game at the new Bronx stadium.

Governor David Paterson mislead investigators and could face criminal charges following an investigation into his receipt of free Yankees World Series tickets last year, according to a report by the independent counsel to the state attorney general's office. Retired Judge Judith Kaye released her report on the investigation this afternoon. It says the decision whether charges should be brought against Paterson is up to the Albany County district attorney. The report says checks to pay for the tickets and a letter prepared by an aide to the governor were both backdated to make them look as if the payment was made before the game.
