Chronic Wasting Disease has been found in at least one deer on a farm about five miles west of DuBois. The state Department of Agriculture says a 5-year-old deer that died on the Reynoldsville farm tested positive for CWD, and now the farm is under quarantine. Deer legally may not be moved on or off the property, and the ongoing investigation may lead to additional farms being quarantined. Chronic Wasting Disease is always fatal, and attacks the brains of deer, elk, moose and other antlered animals. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

After 15-years of testing more than 43,000 deer, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has confirmed three cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in hunter-killed deer. Two of the infected animals were harvested in Blair County; the third came from Bedford County. “We’ve been saying for many years it’s not a matter of if but when, and I think we’ve arrived at when,” says Calvin DuBrock, Director of Wildlife Management.
