The old Tuna Mill off Mechanic Street has been destroyed by fire, and firemen are still on the scene of the blaze that was called in at about 10:30. Bradford City, Bradford Township, Derrick City, Lewis Run, Lafayette and Corydon townships and Salamanca are among the fire companies on the scene. Mechanic Street is closed from West Washington Street to Walker Avenue and traffic is tied up in the rest of that area. Please avoid traveling there if possible. Flames from the blaze could be seen in the East Main Street area and ash from the fire was covering cars in the Grace Lutheran Church parking lot. We'll have more information as it becomes available. U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) recently visited Afghanistan and Pakistan on a congressional delegation (CODEL) led by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). During their trip, the senators met with U.S. troops, military officials and political leaders to discuss political, economic and security issues in the region. In addition to meeting with Pennsylvania troops, Sen. Toomey met with General David Petraeus, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Pakistani General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, chief of army staff of the Pakistan army. Sen. Toomey left Washington, D.C., Jan. 13 and will be returning to Pennsylvania today. Sen. Toomey was joined by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Sen. At around 4 p.m. Bradford City firefighters were still putting out hot spots at what's left of the building at the corner of School and North Center streets. The fire was reported at just before 11 a.m. Firefighters were back at the central station at around 5 p.m. Update: Firefighters were back on the scene at about 6:45 p.m. ( Photo by Anne Holliday )

Bradford City firefighters are currently on the scene of a fire at 26 Edwards Street. The report of the fire was called in at about 1:30. Smoke and flames were showing when firefighters arrived. Everyone in the building got out safely. We'll have more information as it becomes available.

While Bradford City Firefighters battle this blaze (above) at the corner of Elm and Congress streets, Bradford Township firemen were called to this fire (below) near the old Second Ward School, just a few hundred feet away from the first blaze.

Bradford City Firefighters are battling a blaze at the corner of Elm and Congress streets this morning. Everyone got out of the house. While city firefighterse were still battling this fire (and they are still on the scene as of this posting), another fire started just a few hundred feet away across the street from the old Second Ward School. Bradford Township Firefighters are battling that blaze.
