Ca$h Mob Bradford Off to Great Start

Image
Ca$h Mob Bradford made it's first "hit" on Saturday at Timeless Treasures on Chestnut Street. 28 mobsters – including 26 adults and 2 children - met at the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce office, where Timeless Treasures was announced as the first Ca$h Mob Bradford target, and then the group headed to the Chestnut Street store to do their shopping. The new Ca$h Mob Bradford program is organized by the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce as a way to stimulate the economy and support locally owned businesses. The idea was put into action after a local resident shared information about the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce’s successful cash mob program with Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce staff. Ca$h Mob Bradford will target a different BACC member business each month, with mobsters each spending $20 or more in cash at the target--which is not announced until the day of the event. On Saturday, the Ca$h Mob Bradford participants generated $701.13 in sales for Tim...

Triathlon Raises More Than $40,000 for Local Vets

Image
By SANDY RHODES When Micah Irwin crossed the finish line of Saturday's Willow Creek Triathlon, he was not alone. Actually far from it. There was the announcement over the PA system, "Welcome to Willow Creek." There were the two lines of veterans clapping and eagerly waiting to shake his hand. And then there was the image of Irwin's grandfather on the front of the 24-year-old's T-shirt. "I did this in memory of my grandfather (Ralph French) who was a World War II veteran," the Bradford man said. "He passed away a few years ago. Irwin was one of 290 who participated in the ninth annual triathlon that this year raised $40,139 for the transportation funds of the Disabled American Veterans of Mckean and Warren counties. This year's event surpassed last year's donation by more than $10,000. The nine-year total is more than $151,000. All of the proceeds help local veterans. The funds are earmarked to help with transportation - making su...

People Pull Together for a Great Reason

Image
Editorial Comment: Less than two weeks ago I got frustrated when, after a crime was committed in Bradford, someone commented on Facebook, "Typical Bradford." According to Merriam‑Webster typical is: normal for a person, thing, or group : average or usual. I don't know about you but, in my circle of friends, stabbings are neither normal, average nor usual. And I have a pretty big group of friends. So, to me and my friends and acquaintances, this was anything but "typical Bradford" and it led to this Facebook rant (and the update I added yesterday): We all know Bradford still has problems, but they are being addressed. Change doesn't happen overnight. If you can't see everything good that's happening in Bradford right now, you need to open your eyes. It's that simple. Case Anniversary Celebration Continues

Image
W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery continued its 125th anniversary celebration today by holding a picnic lunch for its employees and unveiling a custom made knife that is now on display in the Zippo/Case Museum on a pedestal that carries the names of all the current Case employees. Zippo/Case President CEO Greg Booth joked about how happy he was to find his name on the display. "I made the cut," he said. As for the knife itself, Zippo/Case owner George Duke simply said, "That is great. Fantastic." Artisan Mike DuBois crafted the special knife. Case Director of Marketing John Sullivan said today’s events were designed as a thank you to the company’s dedicated employees. Sullivan also noted that the community is a big part of Case’s success, which is why the “Thank you, Bradford” message is on the sign at the Davis and Main Street intersection. The Case factory on Owens Way is currently going through a $10 million renovation which, Sullivan says, will keep the com...

Chamber Organizing 'Mob Hits'

Image
One of the things Bradfordians do best is support each other. With that in mind, the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce will be starting Ca$h Mob Bradford next month to help support locally owned businesses. The purpose of a Ca$h Mob is to have as many people as possible target one locally owned business on a specific day and spend at least $20. The target business will be announced on the day the mobsters will visit. If you would like your business to be a mob target, or if you want more information about mob events, send your email address to kara.kennedy@bradfordchamber.com . The chamber hopes to have the Ca$h Mob in action every month. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Kids & Cancer Raises Nearly $60,000

Image
In Typical Bradford Fashion, raindrops on Saturday didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as Kids & Cancer raised nearly $60,000. The money came from the 17th annual motorcycle run – which attracted 180 bikers – as well as the End of Run Bash on Mechanic Street. Bridget Pascarella won this year’s Harley of Hope, a 2014 Harley Switchback. The benefit run has raised about a quarter of a million dollars since its inception. Now that’s typical Bradford.
