A Kennedy, New York, man is facing charges for allegedly having a loaded gun on the JCC Campus in Jamestown, and for stealing a number of other items. George Guild is accused of taking a chain saw, keys and a rifle from another person’s property and demanding $500 in unpaid wages in exchange for the items. Troopers found Guild on the campus, and the stolen items were inside his vehicle. He was charged with trespass, petit larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle. He’s scheduled to appear in court at a later date. St. Bonaventure University and Jamestown Community College officials have sealed the deal on 18 articulation agreements, thus paving the way for JCC students to earn a bachelor’s degree at St. Bonaventure. “We’re thrilled to build on our longstanding relationships with JCC,” said Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., president of St. Bonaventure University. “With these agreements, students at JCC can have a clear understanding of what they need to do at JCC to ensure a smooth transition to the university and also ensuring they graduate on time.” The articulation agreements spell out the policies by which St. Bonaventure awards transfer credits and are specific about course equivalencies. The Theater and Culture Club at Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus and Olean Toastmasters welcome area actors, comedians, and musicians to participate in an original production of “Scared Speechless.” According to director Anna Bush, musical numbers may be added to the production if enough musicians participate. The deadline to sign up is September 15 and participants must be high school age and up. Set at a high school reunion, the murder mystery centers around witnesses to a crime who have been scared speechless and attempt to act out their version of events to the audience with comedic results. “Scared Speechless” will be performed at 7 p.m. on October 27 and 28 in JCC’s Cutco Theater. The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has entered into transfer agreements with Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College to help students who plan to earn an associate’s degree at JCC and transfer into a bachelor’s degree program at Pitt-Bradford. The new agreements cover bachelor’s degree programs in history/political science, human relations, interdisciplinary arts or writing at Pitt-Bradford. An overview of Pitt-Bradford’s programs and its transfer agreements with JCC are available at www.upb.pitt.edu . Each agreement guarantees acceptance of JCC students who successfully complete up to 75 transferable credits (with a minimum grade of C in each course), achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, meet Pitt-Bradford conduct standards, and complete application and deposit requirements by May 1. Four St. Bonaventure University men's basketball players have been arrested on violations in connection with a fight they had with members of the JCC men’s basketball team when two people got stabbed with a screwdriver. State police arrested 20-year-old Malcolm Eleby of Philadelphia; 18-year-old Brett Roseboro of Allentown, Pa.; 22-year-old Da'Quan Cook of Elizabeth, N.J.; and 22-year-old Lewis Leonard of Olean. All four were charged with at least one count of second-degree harassment and disorderly conduct. Violations, which are considered non-criminal and less serious than misdemeanors or felonies, rarely lead to jail time. The university hasn’t said what disciplinary action it may take. The injured JCC players are 20-year-old Rameek Boyd and 20-year-old James Chatmon. They were treated at Olean General Hospital for minor stab wounds, then released.

Poet Linda Gregg will hold a reading of her work at 7 p.m. on April 28 at Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus. The free event, which will be held in room 308 of the Library and Liberal Arts Center, is co-sponsored by JCC and the Olean Public Library with funding from the Katharine Jackson Carnahan Endowment for the Humanities and the New York State Council on the Arts. Ms. Gregg is the 2009 Jackson Poetry Prize recipient. The prize honors an American poet of exceptional talent who has published at least one book of recognized literary merit but has not yet received major national acclaim. Judges for the award described Ms. Gregg’s poems as “charting human emotion at its most risky, leading the reader at times into a metaphysical or mystical utterance, and at times into a plain-spoken observation of a human world. John Sayegh of Allegany will be the newest member of Jamestown Community College’s administrative team. His appointment as vice president/dean of the Cattaraugus County Campus, continuing education, and external partnerships was announced today by JCC President Gregory T. DeCinque. “We are pleased to welcome someone with John’s breadth and depth of experience to the college,” said Dr. DeCinque. “As someone familiar with the Southern Tier, he possesses a keen understanding of how higher education can respond to the needs of our service area and has a solid track record of accomplishments through his work with Cattaraugus County, the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, and the city of Olean.” In addition to having daily oversight responsibilities for the Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean, Sayegh will have college-wide duties that include overseeing non-credit instruction and programming. “This is a tremendous opportunity for me personally and professionally,” Sayegh said. “I am for...
