Kathleen Douglas Sentenced

A Kane woman who admitted to being at fault in a crash that killed six people – including her daughter and nephew – last August has been sentenced to 11 years and three months to 22 ½ years in state prison after a judge accepted a plea deal that dropped charges saying she was under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the crash. 38-year-old Kathleen Douglas was driving a car that crashed on Route 219 and Meade Run Road. Killed in the crash were 12-year-old Olivia Douglas, 6-year-old Jarett Costanzo and four St. Marys residents, 62-year-old Gary Beimel, 55-year-old Elaine Beimel, 54-year-old David Cuneo and 81-year-old Florence Donachy. Douglas was sentenced today in McKean County Court on charges of homicide by vehicle and recklessly endangering another person. Also dismissed were charges of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Kane woman has admitted to being at fault in a crash that killed six people – including her daughter and nephew – last August. 38-year-old Kathleen Douglas was driving a car that crashed on Route 219 and Meade Run Road. Killed in the crash were 12-year-old Olivia Douglas, 6-year-old Jarett Costanzo and four St. Marys residents, 62-year-old Gary Beimel, 55-year-old Elaine Beimel, 54-year-old David Cuneo and 81-year-old Florence Donachy. Douglas is scheduled for sentencing Tuesday morning in McKean County Court. If Judge William Morgan accepts a plea deal, she would serve 11 years and three months to 22 ½ years in state prison on charges of homicide by vehicle and recklessly endangering another person. Kathleen Douglas Pleads Not Guilty

The Kane woman accused of driving under the influence of prescription medication in a crash that killed six people – including her daughter and nephew – has pleaded not guilty in McKean County Court. 37-year-old Kathleen Douglas is charged with six counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of a controlled substance, as well as dozens of related offenses. Police say on August 31 her vehicle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Route 219 and Meade Run Road. Her 12-year-old daughter, Olivia Douglas and 6-year-old nephew Jarrett Costanzo were killed. Four St. Marys residents in the other car, Gary Beimel, Elaine Beimel, David Cuneo and Florence Donachy, were also killed. Douglas and her 10-year-old son were seriously injured and she spent several months in a hospital and nursing home. She is now in prison in Cambridge Springs on $750,000 bail. Woman Charged with Homicide by Vehicle

The woman accused of driving under the influence in a crash that killed her daughter, nephew and four other people was arraigned today in District Court. 37-year-old Kathleen Douglas is also charged with six counts of homicide by vehicle, as well as multiple counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and a number of other offenses. Police say Douglas was driving her SUV on Route 219 at the Meade Run Road intersection on the afternoon of August 31 when it crossed the center line and hit a car head-on. Her 12-year-old daughter Olivia Douglas and 6-year-old nephew Jarrett Costanzo were pronounced dead at the scene. Douglas and her 10-year-old son were flown to trauma centers for treatment of serious injuries. 62-year-old Gary Beimel, 55-year-old Elaine Beimel, 54-year-old David Cuneo and 81-year-old Florence Donachy, all of St. Marys, were also pronounced dead at the scene.
