Elmer Myers Has Passed Away

Dr. Elmer C. Myers, Jr., 74, of Gifford, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at his residence. Born July 1, 1940, in Altoona, he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Twila (Aber) Myers, Sr. Dr. Myers was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School in Blair County. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Science from Lock Haven University and his Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He pursued doctoral studies at Penn State University and completed his PhD in Educational Administration at the University of Pennsylvania. Elmer taught in the elementary grades in Bellwood-Antis. He served as Elementary Supervisor in the Northern York County School District, Director of Elementary Education in DuBois, and Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education in Corry. Harry Tome Passes Away at Age 91

Caretaker of Riverview-Corydon Cemetery Harry B. Tome, 91, of 16 Yohe Road, Corydon Twp., PA, passed away, peacefully, with his devoted daughter at his side, on Monday, September 9, 2013. Born April 14, 1922 in Corydon he was a son of the late Jay and Bessie (Blair) Tome. He attended schools in Corydon and Kinzua. On November 27, 1942, in Randolph, he married Marion (Freeman) Tome, who died on September 11, 1996. He was a resident of Corydon until 1964 when the Army Corp. of Engineer's made him leave the family farm. He was a supervisor for the Town of Corydon for 17 years and later for 11 years in Corydon Twp. During his working career he operated heavy equipment and was a member of Construction Local 66. He also did logging and for over 40 years was the caretaker and sexton for Riverview-Corydon Cemetery. He was faithfully devoted to his family, work, and friends. Active in National, Local Politics for Decades Barbara Ann (Heddens) Hagg, 82, of 30 Edwards Street, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in Mechanicsburg. Born April 17, 1931, in Bradford, she was the daughter of Lawrence Amandus and Anna Elvera (Hornquist) Heddens. On June 20, 1953, she married Duane Gordon Hagg who died July 30, 1972. After college in 1953, Barbara returned to Bradford where she was a lifelong resident. Barbara was grounded in her family, church and serving her community. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Bradford High School, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Mrs. Hagg began her professional career as an elementary school teacher until 1959. She loved teaching and all through her life remembered those days with pride. William F. Neatrour Sr., 83, formerly of 460 Interstate Parkway, passed away, Tuesday, July 30, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, in the Bradford Ecumenical Home. Born November 9, 192,9 in Apollo, he was a son of the late Victor and Beatrice (Saxon) Neatrour. On April 17, 1948, in Apollo he married Harriet J. (Burns) Neatrour, who died on August 21, 2012. Mr. Neatrour attended Apollo Schools. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on November 11, 1947 served with the 18th Air Police Squad APO 74. He was station in the Philippines and was honorably discharged on February 1, 1950. He moved to Bradford and worked at the Northeast Container, and Dresser Manufacturing. He was Chief of Police for Bradford Township for ten years and later worked for the McKean County Sheriff's Department for 20 years. Former Pennsylvania Governor William Scranton died Sunday of a brain hemorrhage. He was 96. Scranton served as from 1963 to 1967 implemented major reforms in the state’s educational system. The state community college system, the state board of education, and the state’s Higher Education Assistance Agency were all created during his term. Governor Tom Corbett today ordered all Pennsylvania flags lowered to half-staff immediately in honor of Scranton. “Governor Scranton was a world-class leader in government. He will be remembered as a man of humility, honesty, dignity and integrity,’’ Corbett said. “Susan and I mourn the passing of this distinguished man and offer our sincerest condolences to his wife, Mary, and his family. Born June 3, 1961 in Olean, New York, he was the son of Keith Sr. and Shirley Spink Reed, of 63 Adams Street, Salamanca, New York, who survive. Mr. Reed was a graduate of Salamanca High School Class of 1979. He earned his bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure University and two master's degrees, one in education, and the other in administration from Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA. He was enrolled in the Superintendant Development Program through Oswego State University. He began his career in 1984 as a business and distributive education teacher at Horseheads Central School. He became the intervention specialist for Horseheads High school in 1995. Born September 24, 1946, in Clearfield, he was a son of the late Edna Mae (Smith) and John Claire Hoover. On August 1, 1970 in the Heinz Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh, he married Linda J. (Popovich) Hoover, who survives. A 1964 graduate of Curwensville High School, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts in 1964. He then received a Master of Arts in Teaching in 1969 from the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration, also from the University of Pittsburgh in 1981. Langianese and Lewis Run Mayor Albert “Abbie” Montecalvo made news last year as the longest serving political team in the country, having held their positions for more than 50 years. Langianese was in his 56th year as council president. Langianese died Friday, May 4, 2012, in The Pavilion at BRMC. He was born on December 10, 1921, in Lewis Run, a son of Michael and Josephine Benedict Langianese. On June 1, 1946 in Lewis Run he married Esther M. Doriguzzi who preceded him in death on March 12, 2003. He was a 1940 graduate of St. Bernard School where he played for the school football team. He was a United States Army Air Corps. Former Allegany police and fire chief Francis “Pezz” Pezzimenti passed away Saturday at Olean General Hospital. He was 80. Pezz served as police chief from 1975 to 1992 and was with the department for 29 years. He also spent 50 years with the Allegany Engine Co., 46 as chief. Former Seneca Nation President Calvin Lay died Sunday in the Gowanda Nursing Home. He was 86. Lay was involved in Seneca Nation politics throughout his life, serving four terms on the Tribal Council, one as nation treasurer and two as president of the Seneca Nation, in 1976 and 1984. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, the former Corinne Parker; a son, Douglas; a daughter, Eileen Marx; and a sister, June Heron. Friends may call Wednesday-Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the WENTLAND FUNERAL HOME, 10634 Main St., (Route 62), North Collins, NY. Robert Sellstrom Bargar of 14 Owana Way, Lakewood, NY, formerly of 304 Arlington Avenue, Jamestown, NY died February 15, 2012 at his home in Naples, Florida. He was 92. Robert Bargar was born on August 8, 1919 in Jamestown, the son of Crawford Nathaniel and May Sellstrom Bargar. Mr. Bargar was married to the former Je'Anne Griffin of Kings Mountain, NC on April 9, 1949. In 2006, Bob and Je'Anne celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. A graduate of Jamestown High School, he attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, graduating in 1941. He attended the University of Pennsylvania Engineering School and received a post-graduate certificate in Production Engineering under the sponsorship of the United States office of Production Engineering. James J. “Jim” Salvamoser, 71, of 349 Kinzua Avenue, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday (December 15, 2011). Born January 9, 1940, in Kane, he was a son of Francis “Frank” and Julia Powley Salvamoser. On August 26, 1961, in Mt. Jewett, he married Marjorie Kimbrough who survives. Jim and Margie recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A graduate of Indiana University of PA, he received a degree in elementary education and also was a member of ROTC. He retired from Osram Sylvania in St. Marys and had previously held several management positions at PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, Grobowski Industries in Sheffield and Emporium Specialties in Emporium. Dene P. Wesmiller, 81, of 187 Constitution Ave. passed away Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center. Born November 8, 1930, in Bradford he was a son of the late Clarence G. "Smiles" and Helen I. (Parsons) Wesmiller. On May 4, 1953, in Bradford he married Barbara J. (Case) Wesmiller who survives. Mr. Wesmiller was a 1948 graduate of Bradford High School. On September 5th, 1950 he entered the United States Army, served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on September 28, 1951. He had been employed for many years as a car salesman at Fairway Ford, Star Garage and then at Dale Phillips Auto Sales. Joseph J. Sweet, 62, of 565 Bolivar Drive passed away Friday, December 2nd, 2011, in Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a long and courageous battle with MDS, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 21, 1949, in Cuba, NY, he was a son of the late Floyd and Leatrice (Miller) Sweet. On November 21, 1970, by the Honorable District Justice, Roland H. Magee, he married Betsy G. Greene who survives. Mr. Sweet was a 1967 graduate of Bradford High School. On July 19, 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army, served during Vietnam and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1970. He returned home from the service and worked for Red Rock Plugging Company, Hanley Brick, Pennzoil and then for 16 years as the Foster Township Road Superintendent. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, and the Miami Dolphins. Born September 30, 1935, in Bradford he was a son of the late David C. and Helen (Allen) Kaber. On June 16, 1962 in Bradford he married Patricia Kaber who survives. Mr. Kaber was a 1956 graduate of Bradford High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He had worked at Litton Business Machines, then owned and operated Kaber Electric. In 1994 he was employed by Foster Township Highway Department until his retirement in 1997. (CNN) --Betty Ford, the widow of President Gerald Ford and a co-founder of an eponymous addiction center in California, has died at the age of 93. Elaine Didier, the director of the Grand Rapids, Michigan, museum, confirmed Ford's death to CNN. Ford died Friday evening with family at her bedside, according to a family member.
