James J. “Jim” Salvamoser, 71, of 349 Kinzua Avenue, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday (December 15, 2011).

Born January 9, 1940, in Kane, he was a son of Francis “Frank” and Julia Powley Salvamoser. On August 26, 1961, in Mt. Jewett, he married Marjorie Kimbrough who survives. Jim and Margie recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

A graduate of Indiana University of PA, he received a degree in elementary education and also was a member of ROTC. He retired from Osram Sylvania in St. Marys and had previously held several management positions at PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, Grobowski Industries in Sheffield and Emporium Specialties in Emporium. He also had been a 4th grade teacher in Johnsonburg.

Jim served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain, and was active during the Berlin Crisis. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

For the past 35 years, Jim was a very active member of his church and the Kane community. He served the First United Methodist Church as head trustee, was a member of the finance committee and a member and past president of administrative council. He also belonged to the United Methodist Men.

He served on Borough Council for over 16 years where he also was a past president. He was president of the Kane Borough Sewer Authority and served on its board. He was an active member of Kane Rotary, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, the Kane Chamber of Commerce, KAIDC and the McKean County Assessment Appeals Board. He also was an active participant with the Allegheny National Forest Visitors’ Trail.

Jim was a member of the Kane Community Hospital Board and was a member and past president of the Kane Country Club where he was actively involved in its day-to-day operations. He volunteered with the Kane Community Center and helped them raised $11,000. He also helped with the building of the enchanted playground at Evergreen Park and was on the PA Wilds, Rte 6 Committee.

He belonged to the Kane Fish & Game Club and was an avid golfer and hunter. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the Disabled American Veterans.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Margie Salvamoser, are two daughters, Jeanne Salvamoser Cicero of Erie and Jacqueline (Steven) Durnell of Kane; four grandchildren, Kyle and Jacob Durnell of Kane and Ashley and Hannah Cicero of Erie; a brother, Francis “Frank” (Diane) Salvamoser of Buffalo, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Julie Ann Salvamoser Gray.

Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. and again on Monday at the First United Methodist Church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. William R. LaVelle Jr. and the Rev. W. Craig Smith co-officiating. Burial will be at Nebo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church (Kimbrough Library Fund) 112 Greeves St., Kane, PA 16701 ; Friends Memorial Public Library, 230 Chase St., Kane, PA; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
