Destinations-Bradford is holding a blanket giveaway November 17th at the Destinations-Bradford, Community Outreach Center at 1 Main Street. Both twin and full/queen sized blankets are available in limited supply. To qualify for receipt of blankets: Applicant must live within Bradford Area School District perimeters; be able to pick up on Nov. 17th between 10 am and 2 pm; must call to reserve (talk to live person-no voice messages); must meet income guidelines. Blankets will be available by reservation only. Reserve Nov. 6 thru 9 and Nov. 13th from 10am to 4pm by calling Destinations-Bradford office at 814-331-4551 The program is sponsored by the Bradford Area Ministerium and the Pitt-Bradford Student Body. The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will graduate its largest class – 342 students – during commencement exercises Sunday, April 29. John Schlimm, internationally award-winning author of 12 books on cooking/entertaining, history, how-to and fiction, will speak to the graduating class. The commencement will also be broadcast live at www.upb.pitt.edu/commencement.aspx . Those graduates from Bradford expected to receive an Associate of Science degree are Andrew M. Flynn, Samantha McGriff, Nathan M. O’Lay and Nathan Alan Rees, all nursing majors, and Beth Christman and Burton Markert, both petroleum technology majors. Chaz Kellem, manager of diversity initiatives for the Pittsburgh Pirates, will speak at a celebration of Disability Awareness Month at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Kellem’s talk, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 5 p.m. Oct. 24 in Harriett B. Wick Chapel. Refreshments will be served. Kellem manages the Pirates’ interaction with a variety of regional minority communities in order to identify, network, and cultivate positive mutually beneficial relationships with community and business leaders. These communities include African Americans, Latinos, Asians, persons with disabilities, and the underserved and uninsured. His focus is to develop and engage the minority communities in sales, community and business opportunities that will increase minority participation within the Pirates organization.
