Joe Sweet Has Passed Away

Joseph J. Sweet, 62, of 565 Bolivar Drive passed away Friday, December 2nd, 2011, in Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a long and courageous battle with MDS, surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 21, 1949, in Cuba, NY, he was a son of the late Floyd and Leatrice (Miller) Sweet.

On November 21, 1970, by the Honorable District Justice, Roland H. Magee, he married Betsy G. Greene who survives.

Mr. Sweet was a 1967 graduate of Bradford High School. On July 19, 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army, served during Vietnam and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1970. He returned home from the service and worked for Red Rock Plugging Company, Hanley Brick, Pennzoil and then for 16 years as the Foster Township Road Superintendent.

He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, and the Miami Dolphins. He loved traveling with his wife, but most of all spending time with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, humor and always putting a smile on everyone's face.

In addition to his wife of 41 years he is survived by three daughters, Dawn E. (Chad) Babcock of Rew, Jaime K. (Bryan) Taylor of Bradford and Angela B. Sweet of Bradford, a sister, Penny (Clarence) Hough of Bradford, six grandchildren; Kyle Sweet, Corinne Sweet, Devin Sweet, Sierra Haynes, Samuel Taylor and Matt Taylor and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Wanda Mills and Sandra Carr and a brother Walt Sweet.

Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. South Ave. where funeral and services will be held on Monday, December 5th at 1:00pm with Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church officiating. Committal services and Military Honors will be accorded in Willow Dale Cemetery.
