On Monday, police thought a bank robbery in Jamestown and another in Falconer were unrelated. Today, they believe both robberies were committed by the same man responsible for other robberies across New York State. The first robbery was at 12:15 p.m. at the First Niagara Bank in Jamestown. The second was at the Jamestown Savings Bank in Falconer at around 2:15 p.m. Authorities first thought the second robber was a black man, but now believe the man who robbed both banks is a white man about 5-feet 10-inches tall, weighing 160 pounds. He has light brown hair with a reddish-blonde goatee. He was wearing wire rim glasses, a black leather coat, black pants and a black Pittsburgh Pirates hat. A St. Marys man who hit and critically injured a woman with his SUV and didn’t stop to help her will spend 90 days in jail, and 90 days on house arrest. 41-year-old Dean Schatz pleaded guilty to accidents involving death or personal injury. At around 3:15 a.m. on July 28 in St. Marys Schatz hit Natasha Schmitz, leaving her with a broken pelvis, a hole in her leg, a broken arm and kidney and liver damage. She spent a month in the hospital and another month in physical therapy. At first Schatz claimed his SUV had been stolen, but later admitted to being the driver who hit Schmitz. A Bradford man is facing a number of charges in four separate cases. City police executed a search warrant at the Congress Street home of James Bolyard Jr. and seized a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $1,400 in cash. All together he’s charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and DUI. Fire destroyed a home on Route 219 in Elk County’s Horton Township this morning. The fire started at around 5:15. The family of four that lived in the house was able to get out safely. They are being assisted by the Red Cross. Route 219 from County Line Road to the Route 153 interchange is closed. No cause has been determined yet, but a state police fire marshal is on the scene. A Clymer man suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident along Mann Road in French Creek Saturday night. Sheriff's deputies say 62-year-old Ben Whitney made an abrupt right turn and rolled The ATV into a ditch. Whitney was thrown on to the road. Deputies say he was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries. Whitney is in stable condition at UPMC Hamot. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Four people entered not guilty pleas to drug charges today in Cattaraugus County Court. 75-year-old Reginald Krouse of Salamanca is accused of selling Hydrocodone. 30-year-old Matthew Anderson of Olean is accused of growing marijuana and having more than 8 ounces of pot. 32-year-old Douglas Farnham of Salamanca is accused of selling cocaine. 34-year-old Stephanie Currie of Salamanca is accused of selling Oxycodone. A Gowanda man has pleaded guilty to burglary. 22-year-old Kyle King broke into a Town of Persia building on January 12 and damaged property. He is scheduled for sentencing on January 28. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Hinsdale man who assaulted another person and used someone’s credit card without permission will spend the next year in jail. 26-year-old Mackenzie Smith applied pressure to the throat or neck of another person on May 29 in Hinsdale. On May 24 he stole property in the Town of Carrollton, and on June 9, in Olean, he used the other person’s credit card. He was sentenced to a year in jail for each crime, but will serve them all at the same time instead of consecutively. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A man already in Cattaraugus County Jail has been sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison as a predicate felon. Back in March and April 41-year-old Ryan Radar broke into buildings in Olean, Ishua and Coldspring. Before today’s sentencing he was in jail for breaking into buildings in Allegany and Hinsdale. Police in Chautauqua County are looking for two bank robbers. At 2:15 this afternoon a 6-foot-tall black man walked into the Jamestown Savings Bank in Falconer and showed the teller a note demanding money. He did not display a weapon, but did get away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Two hours earlier, white man walked into the First Niagara Bank on Spring Street in Jamestown, and handed the teller a note, saying he had a weapon, and demanding money. A deer was the cause of a crash at 6:45 this morning on Route 59 just east of Spring Drive in Lafayette Township. Police say 24-year-old Cody Epling of Clarendon was traveling east when a deer crossed the road in front his pickup truck. He lost control of the truck, which eventually turned over onto its passenger side. Neither Epling nor his passenger 48-year-old Michael Anderson of Sheffield was hurt. A man who was apparently jealous because his ex-girlfriend was living with another man is accused of trying to burn down an apartment house where she was living. City Police say in a news release that 22-year-old Justin “Fuzzy” Schlopy went to 54 Elm Street on August 24, filled a garbage can with clothes and a flammable liquid and set it on fire. The fire left nine people homeless and killed several dogs, cats and birds. In July, Schlopy allegedly tried to set the same building on fire using gasoline. He is charged with arson and related offenses and is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

"Terror Before Dawn" is a stirring memoir of World War II put together from letters written by Anne Raghnild Fagerberg, who lived through the war in Norway. "My story begins when I was just a little girl, only four years old," she writes, "yet the horror of those years lingers within in me years later." After Anne died of cancer in 1998 her son, William Sterling Williams, found a bag of her hand-written notes. An Oil City man has pleaded guilty in federal court to sexually exploiting children. 53-year-old Joseph Martin Glass had computer images depicting children engaging in sexually explicit conduct. He could face up to 10 years in prison when he’s sentenced on March 25.
