A man charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident in Randolph has been sentenced in Cattaraugus County Court to three years’ probation. 25-year-old Benjamin Goon of Jamestown hit 17-year-old Federico Flores in the early morning hours of October 10, 2010, when Flores was walking home from work at a dairy farm. The accident happened at the intersection of Route 394 and School House Road. Goon told prosecutors he got out to see what he had hit, but didn’t see anything so he left. A passing motorist found Flores’s body about eight hours later. Goon had originally been charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident, but was sentenced for a misdemeanor. An Olean man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child younger than 11. 29-year-old John Williams is also charged with criminal sexual act, sexual abuse and incest for the incidents that happened between March of 2006 and November of 2007 in the Town of Allegany. The man accused of holding police at bay for about an hour and a half back in July in Olean has pleaded not guilty. 49-year-old Frank DiLorenzo fired a shot from a rifle out the back door of his apartment during the standoff, but no one was hurt. He later surrendered without further incident. DiLorenzo is charged with a felony count of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and prohibited use of a weapon. Active in National, Local Politics for Decades Barbara Ann (Heddens) Hagg, 82, of 30 Edwards Street, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in Mechanicsburg. Born April 17, 1931, in Bradford, she was the daughter of Lawrence Amandus and Anna Elvera (Hornquist) Heddens. On June 20, 1953, she married Duane Gordon Hagg who died July 30, 1972. After college in 1953, Barbara returned to Bradford where she was a lifelong resident. Barbara was grounded in her family, church and serving her community. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Bradford High School, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Mrs. Hagg began her professional career as an elementary school teacher until 1959. She loved teaching and all through her life remembered those days with pride. Foster Township Police are looking for suspicious white van and the man in it who has approached at least one child. At about 8 o’clock this morning the van drove past a girl on Looker Mountain Trail near the intersection with South Kendall Avenue, and then turned around and drove past her again. But on August 27, the van was following a girl walking home from school. At the intersection of Bordell and Summit roads, she noticed a vehicle behind her that pulled into two driveways on Bordell. At one point, the driver got out of the van and started to walk toward her. The girl ran to the home of a person she knew, and two dogs ran out. The dogs approached the man, and then he got back into the van and left the area. The van is a white, older model conversion van and the driver is a white man, believed to be in his 60s with gray hair. Harrisburg – Eleven people died in crashes investigated by state police during the Labor Day holiday weekend – including six in McKean County. 262 others were injured in the 661 crashes investigated by state police. This total does not include crashes investigated by local police. The McKean County crash happened Saturday afternoon when an SUV driven by 36-year-old Kathy Douglas of Kane crossed the center line at the intersection of Route 219 and Meade Run Road and hit car head-on. Douglas’s daughter 12-year-old girl Olivia Douglas and her nephew 6-year-old Jarrett were pronounced dead at the scene. Douglas and her 10-year-old son were flown to Pittsburgh hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. 62-year-old Gary Beimel, 55-year-old Elaine Beimel, 54-year-old David Cuneo and 81-year-old Florence Donachy, all of St. Marys, were also pronounced dead at the scene. An Emporium woman suffered minor injuries in a crash Tuesday on Route 46, two miles north of Rich Valley Road in Shippen Township. Police say 22-year-old Skylar Williams was traveling north when her car crossed into the southbound lane, then left the road, hit and embankment and rolled onto its roof. City of Bradford Police are investigating a sexual assault that was reported Tuesday on Jackson Avenue. (No further information is available yet.) Also on Tuesday, police investigated a burglary on Congress Street and thefts on York and High streets and on East Avenue. Officers also got calls about trespassing on High Street, a disturbance on Bushnell Street, disorderly conduct on East Corydon Street and harassment on West Corydon and Bank streets. Fire did more than a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of damage to an auto body repair shop in Elk County late Tuesday afternoon. State Police fire marshal Greg Agosti says the fire started at just after 5:30 p.m. at the Kersey Motor Company on Zola Street in Fox Township. NORRISTOWN, Pa. – D. Bruce Hanes, an elected county clerk in the suburbs of Philadelphia, has become something of a gay rights hero for granting marriage licenses to same-sex couples in defiance of Pennsylvania law. But the Civil War buff and married father of two says he is only doing what’s right. “I don’t see myself as a crusader,” said Hanes, 66, who issues marriage licenses as Montgomery County's register of wills and clerk of the county orphan’s court. Bradford Regional Medical Center has launched the first hospital-based Internet addiction detox and recovery program in the United States as part of BRMC’s Behavioral Health Services division. The Internet Addiction Treatment and Recovery Program is an intensive 10-day digital detoxification and stabilization program under the care of a multidisciplinary medical team. The program is intended for individuals who have been unsuccessful in overcoming Internet addiction on their own and serves those 18 years of age and older. Kimberly Young, Psy.D., an internationally-renowned expert in Internet addiction treatment serves as the Medical Director of the program. Young is a licensed psychologist and a professor at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford celebrated Founders’ Day today with a party on the quad and the unveiling of the new bronze panther statue sculpted by Bradford native Dave Hodges. The panther statue is near the main door of the Frame-Westerberg Commons. You can see a video of the unveiling here . It was 50 years ago today that the first classes were held in Bradford for fewer than 300 students. Today, the university has nearly 1,600 students. After allegedly ramming his vehicle into a Winnebago on purpose a Mayville, New York, man is facing a couple of charges. 49-year-old Ricky Zentz allegedly drove his vehicle to a camp site in the Town of Chautauqua at just after 9 o’clock last night and rammed the Winnebago while people were inside of it. Sheriff’s deputies say he also tried to hit a person outside the camper with his vehicle. Zentz was charged with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment and sent to jail. A St. Marys man is accused of killing a woman early this morning and is jailed without bail. City Police believe 44-year-old Michael Stephanic Jr. killed 48-year-old June Talmadge, also known as June Andress, during a domestic incident at Eastern Sintered Alloys, 126 Access Road, at 2:40 a.m. Stephanic is charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. A St. Marys man died late Monday night after he was hit by a vehicle on Route 255 in Fox Township. State police say 50-year-old Edward Joshnick walked out in front of a vehicle operated by 33-year-old Alisha Himes of Penfield. Joshnick was taken to Elk Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead. Himes and two passengers weren't injured. No charges were filed. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Six people were killed in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday afternoon on Route 219 at the Meade Run Road intersection. Police say an SUV driven by 36-year-old Kathy Douglas of Kane crossed the center line and hit car head-on. A 12-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy in her vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Douglas and a 10-year-old boy were flown to trauma centers for treatment of serious injuries. 62-year-old Gary Beimel, 55-year-old Elaine Beimel, 54-year-old David Cuneo and 81-year-old Florence Donachy, all of St. Marys, were also pronounced dead at the scene. 219 was closed for about 6 1/2 hours. The heart of rock and roll was beating Saturday night as Huey Lewis and the News played in the sold out Seneca Allegany Events Center. The current tour is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of the band's "Sports" album, that went platinum seven times. They played every song on the album in order. After "The Heart of Rock & Roll," "Heart and Soul" and "Bad is Bad," Lewis did a little reminiscing: 30 years ago there was no Internet, there were no CDs or cell phones "... and no reading glasses," he said, referencing the specs he wears that are similar to the pair he wore in the movie "Back to the Future." Then he said they were going to flip the album over and play the other side. "Yes, kids," he joked, "we had to flip the album over." "I commend the President for suggesting that he will seek congressional approval for any military actions against Syria. While the reports of chemical weapons usage are deeply troubling and there has been a profound loss of civilian lives, many questions remain unanswered. I am pleased the United Nations placed an investigative team on the ground to collect additional evidence. Despite the President’s conclusion that the United States should take military action against the Assad Regime, I believe it remains very unclear as to what goals America’s intervention would achieve.
