Cole Memorial will host the Potter County Farmers’ Market on the first and third Monday of each month from 2 to 4:30 p.m. starting June 16 until December 15. The market will be located in the hospital’s Irwin Medical Arts Center (IMAC) at 1001 East Second Street in Coudersport. Vendors will offer healthy, organic items including locally grown fruits, vegetables, maple products, jams, jellies plus, ceramic items and alpaca wool products. The Bradford woman accused of trying to punch a doctor and a nurse who were treating her in the BRMC emergency room late Friday night has waived her preliminary hearing, and is out of jail. 32-year-old Angela Wolf, who police say was heavily intoxicated at the time, also threatened a police officer, according to court records. She was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and sent to McKean County Jail, but during today’s hearing all parties agreed that she could be released on unsecured bail. One of the Port Allegany men accused of breaking into Port Beverage and stealing a money bag has waived his preliminary hearing on eight felony burglary- and theft-related charges. 22-year-old David Hurd and his co-defendant were identified through surveillance video posted on Facebook after the break-in on May 7. The money bag had nearly $13,000 in cash and checks in it. Hurd is in McKean County Jail on $20,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

Elk County has been approved for a federal Small Business Administration loan to help people rebuild after the May 21 flooding wreaked havoc on the area. State Rep. Matt Gabler says Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson gave him the word about the disaster declaration. County officials are still waiting for word form FEMA about more assistance. Jason Bange of the American Red Cross has been spending time in Ridgway helping people put their lives back together. A charge related to a domestic incident has been bound to McKean County Court. 33-year-old Joseph Spencer of Bradford is charged with simple assault. According to papers filed in District Judge Dominic Cercone’s police saw red marks on his face that he said he got while fighting with Tristen Johnson. Johnson had red marks on both sides of her neck. Police say they determined that Spencer tried to choke Johnson while she was on a bed, “causing Johnson to defend herself, leaving marks on Spencer.” Johnson’s child told police, “Joe was on top of my mom and grabbed her neck,” according to court papers. No one was hurt when a Megabus blew a tire and caught fire while traveling on the Thruway in Chautauqua County this morning. 21 people were on the bus and, after the driver pulled it off the road, everyone was able to get off the bus before it was engulfed in flames, according to sheriff’s deputies. Shooters Grill and Bar in Port Allegany has been cited by the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement for failing to maintain complete and truthful business records. The alleged violations happened immediately preceding March 13 of this year. The citation was issued on Friday. The charges will be brought before an administrative law judge. Charges against a former Bradford man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl he met online have been bond to McKean County Court. 25-year-old Robert Magee, who now lives in Hinsdale, New York, met the girl on the social networking site MeetMe.com in November and arranged a meeting, according to papers filed in District Judge Dominic Cercone’s office. Magee picked the girl up and took her to his South Center Street home, where he had sex with her. He is charged with statutory sexual assault and indecent assault of a person younger than 16, and is free on unsecured bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

HARRISBURG - The State Senate today approved legislation to further protect Pennsylvania children from sexual abuse and impose a mandatory minimum sentence for murder of a child, according to Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25). Scarnati explained that House Bill 112 was passed by the full Senate by a vote of 45 to 1. The legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives by Representative Vereb and would establish specific guidelines to punish athletic coaches, trainers or other sports officials who have sex with a child-athlete who is under 18 years old. The bill also creates the offense of “sexual assault by a sports official,” which would be graded as a 3rd degree felony. “Athletics are a wonderful way for students to learn important teamwork skills and to have fun,” Scarnati said. “Parents have a right to feel secure in knowing that their children are safe when participating in sports and that child predators are not able to use athletics as a way to ...

Five deer were dumped into Four Mile Creek, Wintergreen Gorge, near Erie and the state game commission is trying to figure out who did it. Wildlife Conservation Officer Larry Smith says the deer believed to be road kills because they had multiple broken bones were found just upstream of Cooper Road. He believes the deer were dumped upstream and high water carried them downstream. The deer have been removed from the stream to a dry area to allow scavengers to help in the decomposition process. City of Bradford Police are investigating a sexual assault that happened on West Washington Street. Also on Tuesday they were called about disturbances on York and Bushnell streets and on Walker Avenue, and disorderly conduct on Interstate Parkway. An early morning crash on Valley Crossroad in Keating Township seriously injured a Smethport man. State police say a pickup truck driven by 19-year-old Zach Hannahs went off the road and hit two trees at around 2:30 this morning. He was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC in Buffalo for treatment of major injuries. Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Memorial Day weekend crash that killed a Port Allegany man has led to homicide by vehicle and other charges against a Luzerne County man. Charges against 31-year-old Jerver Fernandez of Nescopeck were filed today by state police. Fernandez has not been arraigned yet. Police say on May 24 on Route 6 about two miles east of Port Allegany Fernandez’s pickup truck crossed the center line and hit a car driven by 27-year-old Robert Bowes head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Fernandez is also charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle and aggravated assault while DUI, as well as a number of misdemeanors and summary traffic offenses. Homicide by vehicle and other charges against the man accused of careless driving in a crash that killed an 8-year-old boy have been bound to McKean County Court. 21-year-old Tieler Raymo of Smethport appeared before District Judge Bill Todd this afternoon. On the afternoon of February 8, 2013, on East Valley Road in Smethport, Raymo was allegedly speeding on the wrong side of the road when his SUV crashed into another vehicle, killing the little boy from Shinglehouse. Raymo is also charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and a number of summary traffic offenses. Raymo is free on $20,000 unsecured bail. Pennsylvania state senators are not only supporting a reduction in the size of the state Legislature, they are looking to reduce the size of the Executive and Judicial branches as well. The Senate State Government Committee today approved bills that would reduce the size of the House from 203 to 153 seats, and the Senate from 50 to 45. An amendment to the bills sponsored by Senator Joe Scarnati would do away with two of the seven Supreme Court justices and eliminate the position of lieutenant governor. Scarnati, who as Senate President Pro Tempore, served as lieutenant governor upon the death of Catherine Baker Knoll, says reductions in all three branches of government would show taxpayers Harrisburg is serious about reform. “Making these changes, I think, sends a very strong message at a time when we are having difficulty balancing budgets,” Scarnati said. A man who had images of child pornography on his computer will spend the next 2 1/3 to 7 years in New York State prison. 31-year-old Christopher Travis of Cattaraugus was given the maximum sentence in Chautauqua County Court. District Attorney David Foley says in a news release that he’s satisfied with the plea and prison sentence so everyone can avoid the trauma of a trial. Someone stole $4,000 worth of rings from a Kersey home on Monday afternoon. Police say between 1:30 and 1:55 p.m. someone went into Lori Dowie’s home on Chicken Hill Road and stole the two rings. Work to replace a Route 356 bridge in Foster Township is scheduled to start June 16. The bridge, which spans a branch of Foster Brook adjacent to Rob Roy Road, will be closed at that time. The current 24-foot-long bridge will be replaced with a new box culvert. The 12-mile detour will use routes 346, 219, 46, 246 and Rock City Road. The bridge closure and detour are expected to be in place until August 25, but should be lifted by the time school starts, according to PennDOT.
