02/25/08 - 'Beyond' Winners Receive Prizes
Last week, we told you about Pitt-Bradford's celebration of its successful "Beyond" marketing campaign. Shown here, Pat Frantz Cercone, director of communications and marketing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, presents senior Chris Falls with a Nintendo Wii for winning the first Go Beyond Commercial Contest sponsored by Cercone’s department.

Second-place winner was Nathan Norris, a sophomore engineering major from New Millport, whose video showed recreation opportunities on campus and beyond. Norris won a media beanbag chair. The third-place winner was Nicholas Olumese, a sophomore pre-physical therapy major from Fort Washington, Md., whose commercial of a handspringing student earned him a prize of a Flip Video. 02/25/08 - Man in Hospital After Clinton/Obama Spat
Montgomery County authorities say a man stabbed his brother-in-law during an argument over who should get the Democratic nomination for president.
District Attorney Risa Ferman says Jose Ortiz supports Hillary Clinton and Sean Shurelds supports Barack Obama. She says they got into an argument in a Collegeville home and Shurelds tried to choke Ortiz. She says Ortiz then stabbed Shurelds in the abdomen. Shurelds is hospitalized in critical condition. Ortiz, by the way, is a registered Republican.

02/25/08 - Rendell, Schwarzenegger Team Up
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and New York Governor Eliot Spitzer are among 13 governors across the county who have joined the Building America's Future Coalition.
Rendell and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger are co-chairman of the group that wants more federal support to rebuild the country's aging infrastructure. Rendell pointed to experts who say it will take trillions of dollars to repair the nation's crumbling infrastructure. Schwarzenegger adds that the governors are joining together in an effort to force Washington to get serious about rebuilding the nation's infrastructure, because of the affects it has on public safety and the economy.

02/25/08 - Parents of Ex-Bona Student Plead Guilty
The Long Island couple who tried covering up their son's role in the hit-and-run death of a University of Connecticut freshman pleaded guilty today to two misdemeanors. Anthony C. and Donna Alvino were charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. They were each fined $2,000 and were required to pay an additional $330 in court costs. Prosecutors did not seek jail for the couple. The Alvinos' son, former St. Bonaventure University student, 19-year-old Anthony P. Alvino, was sentenced January 23 to 37 months in prison for driving the S-U-V that hit Carlee Wines on the UConn campus in January of 2007. She died three days later.
