03/11/08 - Shopping Cart Ordinance to be 'Tweaked'
Grocery store managers agree that there's a problem with abandoned shopping carts in the city, but they also think more work has to be done an a proposed city ordinance aimed at curbing the problem. Mayor Tom Riel says the purpose of the ordinance is to make people more responsible and help to clean up the city. Businessman Fred Pysher says the right people -- those who steal the carts -- need to be held responsible. The ordinance passed 3 to 2 on first reading during Tuesday's City Council meeting, but council members and store owners will meet to tweak the ordinance before it's brought up on second reading April 8.

03/11/08 - Bradford City Council Meets
Work is expected to start next month on the last project included in the Impact Bradford plan that received millions of dollars in state grant money. The project includes paving, curbing, planting, lighting and other improvements and will be Boylston Street from Mechanic to Davis Street and Kennedy Street from Forman Street to Main Street. Bob Cummins Construction will work on the 1 point 4 million dollar Streetscape Project.

The old Sixth Ward School building on South Kendall Avenue is one step closer to coming down. Council has exonerated former owner, Robert Dalvin from paying real estate taxes, which takes one more roadblock out of the way of contractor Nick Cummins, who plans on tearing the building down and putting up high-end apartments.

03/12/08 - Spitzer Resigns; Paterson to Take Over
If you missed this, you've been living under a rock.
Eliot SpitzerGovernor Eliot Spitzer has resigned and, at the request of Lt. Governor David Paterson, the resignation becomes effective March 17. Paterson, 53, and legally blind, will become New York's first black governor. During his announcement late this morning, Spitzer said “I cannot allow for my private failings to disrupt the people’s work." The scandal erupted Monday when allegations surfaced that Spitzer, a 48-year-old married man with three teenage daughters, spent thousands of dollars on a call girl named Kristen at a swanky Washington hotel on the night before Valentine’s Day.

03/12/08 - Rendell Reacts to Spitzer Scandal
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell says he's shocked at the allegations against New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer. Rendell told the Radio Pennsylvania Network that if anyone had told him that a governor would get caught up in a call-girl scandal, Spitzer would have been his "50th pick out of 50 governors." Rendell says "you never know what lurks in a person's personal life." But He also calls Spitzer one of the most talented public servants he knows. He asks the public to wait till all the facts are known before rushing to judgment.
