Ex-Trooper is Accused in Fatal 219 Crash

A retired New York state troopers is accused of being drunk when he drove the wrong way on a western New York highway and crashed into another car, killing a McKean County woman. 68-year-old David O'Brien of Allegany, NY, was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter after Saturday night's crash in Carrollton, on the Pennsylvania border. The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department says O'Brien was driving south in the northbound lanes of Route 219 when he collided with a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Wendy Karnes. Both O'Brien and Karnes were headed to work at the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, where O'Brien worked as a state gaming inspector.
