Longtime Coudersport football coach Paul Simcoe is calling it a career. Simcoe has spent 35 years as a coach with Coudersport, the last 29 as head coach. His career totals are 204 wins 78 losses and eight ties. Simcoe won four district 9 A football titles too.
04/25/08 - Court Rules on Charter School
McKean County court has ruled that the Mount Jewett Charter School Coalition can appeal the decsion of the Kane Area School board opposing the groups application to establish an elementary school in Mount Jewett. President Judge John cleland issued the decsion Thursday following a brief hearing. The Kane district closed the Mount Jewett Elementary school last June.

The Byrnedale woman charged with arson for setting fire to her house last month has also been charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
Police say Christine Abrahamson was found with a stolen handgun at 3 o'clock Friday morning. The gun was taken from a house in St. Marys.
A Ludlow man has been charged with theft and possession with drug paraphernalia after an incident Thursday afternoon at Koza's Korner in Ludlow. Police say 30-year-old Raymond Eckstrom stole a metal drainage grate from Koza's. While troopers were investigating the theft, they found Eckstrom at a traffic stop, where they found the paraphernalia. He was charged with theft and possession, and his parole has been revoked. The driver of the vehicle, Victoria Cawthon of Ludlow will also be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
A Gerry man got wet, but not hurt, after riding his motorcycle off a bridge that was under construction Wednesday. 22-year-old Charles Houser was riding his motorcycle in Sinclairville when he passed “road closed” signs and went into the creek, according to Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies.
Houser left the scene but deputies found him a nearby house. Police charged him with driving on a revoked license, driving without a helmet and face protection, and leaving the scene.
A Salamanca woman and an Olean man have been indicted by a Cattaraugus County Grand Jury on drug charges. The indictment against Cassandra Busekist charges that on December 19 in Salamanca she had more than one-eighth of an ounce of crack cocaine with intent to sell it, and more than two ounces of marijuana. The indictment against Thomas Phelps Jr. charges that on May 6, 2005, in Olean, he had methadone with intent to sell it.
A Mount Jewett man was sentenced Thursday to 18 months to three years in state prison for a DUI accident which claimed the life another man.
McKean County Court sentenced 23 year-old Jason Roth to prison time after he pleaded guilty to the accident which caused the death of 24 year-old Ian McCloskey last June on Route 219 in McKean County.
