Remembering KKK Clash
LILLY, Pa. (AP) — A small western Pennsylvania borough hopes to memorialize a deadly 1924 clash its townsfolk endured with hundreds of Ku Klux Klansmen.
The Lilly riots occurred on April 5th, 1924, when 300 to 400 Klansmen arrived by train. The Klan targeted the town because of its mostly Catholic immigrant population and its strong United Mine Worker presence, local historians say.
