McGinty: Dam Safety Being Addressed

The Department of Environmental Protection says they're already addressing many of the recommendations offered today in a report released by the auditor general. D-E-P Secretary Kathleen McGinty says efforts began more than four years ago to improve the safety of the state's dams and levees. D-E-P regulates nearly 800 dams that are classified as "high hazard." Among those is the East Branch Dam in Elk County that was built by the Army Corps of Engineers to control flooding on the Clarion River. The dam was placed on a watch list earlier this year, but officials with the Army Corps say that doesn't mean the dam isn't safe.
