Free Symphony Concert

The Southern Tier Symphony strings, under the direction of conductor John Whitney, will present "A Celebration of Priesthood" at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14 at St. Mary of the Angels Church on Henley and First Streets in Olean.

The program is a gift to the community from the church parish and Reverend Gregory J. Dobson, in honor of the 25th anniversary of his ordination. Father Greg is well known in the area as a cleric whose love of music runs very deeply. His leadership role with the Friends of Good Music has helped to bring exceptional talent to our area.

This program is an addition to the annual three concerts usually given by the orchestra, now in its sixth season. The group is currently promoting its "Subscribe NOW!" campaign, which offers patrons a large discount from regular ticket prices. Details may be found at the symphony website: www.southerntiersymphony.org or by calling 716 372-1110.

The concert at St. Mary's will spotlight treasures for string orchestra such as "Adagio" by Samuel Barber, "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3" by J.S. Bach and the first movement of the Tchaikovsky "Serenade." Soloists will include Wildy Zumwalt, associate professor of saxophone at SUNY Fredonia and Maria Bellanca, and Olean High School graduate who is studying at the Eastman School of Music.
