08/30/08 - Woman Allegedly Stole from Employer
An Olean woman has been charged with grand larceny after being accused of stealing from her employer. 25-year-old Michelle Cowles allegedly stole more than $2,000 from Tops Market while she worked there. The alleged incidents started in May.

08/30/08 - Man Hurt in Beauty School Fire
A maintenance worker at the Intercontinental School of Beauty in Olean was hurt during in a fire Friday afternoon at the school. Olean firefighters say the man opened an electrical box and there was an explosion. The man, who was not identified, was injured but did not go to the hospital. The school was evacuated and firemen put out the blaze in about half an hour. National Grid disconnected the power. Only minor damage was done to the building, but the school will remain closed until the electrical issue is resolved.

08/30/08 - Woman Sentenced to State Prison
A Tidioute woman will spend up to 9 years in state prison for stealing from her employer – again. 43-year-old Wendy Czar stole more than $70,000 from Titusville Honing while she worked as a clerk there between February of 2007 and October. Czar was convicted in 2002 of stealing more than $220,000 from the U.S. Forest Service, where she worked between May 1997 and September 2000. She served 13 months in federal prison.

08/30/08 - Corry Man Faces 73 Years in Prison
A Corry man faces up to 73 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple child-molestation charges. 29-year-old George Eberle admitted he repeatedly had sexual contact with a girl when she was 11 and 12 years old in 2003 and 2004 in a Corry home. Eberle was on probation for a federal child-pornography conviction when he walked into the Corry police station in April and admitted he had sex with the child. Sentencing is scheduled for November 26.

08/31/08 - Copper Stolen During Burglary
Police are investigating a burglary at home on Route 6 in Kanesholm. They say someone entered the building owned by Douglas Stewart of Brockway through an unlocked window in the kitchen area and turned off the water in the house. The burglar then removed copper pipe and fittings from various locations. Police say the person did extensive damage to the water system and tore down two heating ducts during the burglary.
