Woman Run Over at Rest Area

A 70-year-old woman is in critical condition in a Pittsburgh hospital after being run over by a car at a rest area along Interstate 79 near Slippery Rock. Police say Mary Strzelczyk of West Seneca, N.Y. was in the picnic area when a car driven by 66-year-old Carol Brown of Rochester was attempting to turn into a handicapped parking space. The car jumped the curb, accelerated over the sidewalk and continued to the picnic area, where it hit Strzelczyk and threw her into the air. She landed in a grassy area and was run over by the car. The car continued into a wooded area, coming to rest in a ravine. Brown and her passenger, 87-year-old Marjorie Lee Richard, were not injured.
