Rendell Defends Surra Hiring

He defended Surra as qualified and told reporters peppering him with questions to "get off your butts and go up to the Pennsylvania Wilds and ask the people up there" about Surra.

OK "people up there (here)" ... What do we think about this? Please comment!

Well we know what Surra's district had to say when they voted him out of office. I met the man a few times and I have nothing personal against him. I don't have a problem with the position, I'm sure it will be a benefit. The timing is the issue here - the hiring freeze, reduction in state tourism promotion dollars to the local tourist promotion agencies, the lack of staff in the state parks should all be higher priorities. I hope he changes his mind and sends that $95k up here where it will do much more good than paying Surra's mortgage. A man with his background could easily find a job in the private sector..
After cutting tourism promotion funds to Potter and adjacent counties, causing some area people to lose their jobs and others to take cuts in hours and wages, this blatant patronage job creation is just more reason to lose any respect for Gov. Ed Rendell. So much for job freezes and cutting back on spending while facing a nearly $2 billion deficit. Even Surra's friends can see thru this sham. Maybe Rendell should be impeached and replaced with Just Plain "Joe" Scarnati who knows how to run a business!

I have nothing against Dan Surra but -- puh-leeze! Every day people "up here" are losing jobs and now the people who do have jobs (taxpayers) have to pay a guy people in his own district voted out? It's appalling!

I know Ed Rendell is not a stupid man, but he must think we are if he believes that think this is a good idea.

I'm still shaking my head over this. Who does Rendell think he is?
