Possible Oil Drilling in ASP

US Energy is thinking about drilling exploratory oil wells in Allegany State Park.

The company has presented its plan to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

US Energy says it would drill dozens of wells on 3,000 acres in the southeast corner of the park if enough oil is found. Us Energy owns the mineral rights on those acres.

Park officials say they will look at the plan very closely.

Would the fact that they have been banned from drilling in Pennsylvania by DEP have anything to do with their decision. I would hope that New York would take into account that they were not able to follow the rules in PA, so why would they in NY. NY has suffered for years with ruined water, streams that trout could not live in because of the oil and salt water pollution, and old well holes scattered throughout the woods and fields. It's been 150 years since oil was discovered, and we've learned a lot about recovering it without ruining our environment. Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police also learned there was an active warrant against him from City of Jamestown Court. He was sent to Chautauqua County Jail on $1,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947
