McCutchen is Baseball America's
Rookie of the Year

Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen is Baseball America's Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year.

McCutchen hit .286 with 12 homers, 54 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 108 games. He led National League rookies with 47 extra-base hits.

Pirates rookie first baseman Garrett Jones was named to Baseball America's all-rookie team. Jones hit .293 with 21 homers and 44 RBI. He led all rookies in home runs and slugging percentage.

In other Pirates news, the club has requested outright waivers on right-handed pitcher Tyler Yates and he has elected free agency today.

The Pirates roster is at 38, plus pitchers Evan Meek and Jose Ascanio, who are on the 60-day disabled list.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. A Derrick City man is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. 19-year-old Richie Cromley is charged with statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal solicitation on a computer of a sex act with a child.
