Cleland-Led Commission Scheduled to Meet Today on 'Kids for Cash'

The panel investigating the "kids-for-cash" scandal in Luzerne County will reconvene today.

The current Luzerne County District Attorney and public defender are scheduled to testify, as is a former DA who is now a judge.

Two former judges face federal racketeering charges for allegedly accepting payoffs from two private juvenile detention centers. Last month, the state Supreme Court threw out thousands of juvenile cases, saying none of the young offenders got a fair hearing.

The panel, headed by Superior Court Judge John Cleland of McKean County, was formed to investigate then recommend measures to prevent similar situations.
