Husband Backs Up Over Wife, Kills Her

A St. Marys man backed his pickup truck over his wife and killed her this morning.

In a fax sent to WESB and The HERO, St. Marys City Police say 70-year-old John Erich stopped the truck on Erie Avenue to let his wife, 71-year-old Jean Erich, out of the passenger side. Jean walked to the back of the truck and started crossing the street when John backed up and hit her.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by Elk County Coroner Lou Radkowski.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Crystal Fire Department, St. Marys Area Ambulance Service and District Attorney Bradley Kraus.

JEAN & HER HUSBAND JOHN "JACK" ERICH WERE VERY GOOD FRIENDS OF MINE FOR OVER 40yrs. THEY WENT OUT TO BREAKFAST ALMOST EVERY MORNING & THIS WAS A TARADGETIC ACCIDENT. JEAN HAD BAD KNEES AND USED A CANE, SHE WOULD HAVE HAD SURGERY ON MONDAY, 4-19-2010, FOR THE SECOND TIME TO HAVE KNEE REPLACMENT. JACK, BEING THE KIND GENTLEMEN HE IS, PULLED UP IN FRONT OF DEE DEE'S DONUT SHOP TO LET HER OUT ON ERIE AVE, DOWNTOWN ST. MARYS, TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR HIS WIFE TO GO IN TO THE DONUT SHOP FOR BREAKFAST WITH HIM. THIS WAS TRURLEY AN ACCIDENT. I WILL MISS MY FRIEND JEAN ERICH VERY MUCH. SHE WAS A VERY SPECIAL LADY, A KIND LOVING MOTHER OF 4 SONS, GRANDMOTHER OF 2 GRANDSONS, A VERY LOVING WIFE TO HER HUSBAND JACK, & ONE OF THE BEST FRIEND ANYONE COULD EVER ASK FOR. SHE WILL BE MISSED BY HER HUSBAND, FAMILY & ALL HER FRIENDS. MAY SHE REST IN PEACH & MAY WE ALL PRAY FOR HER FAMILY & HUSBAND SHE LOVED VERY MUCH. HER HUSBAND JACK WILL BE LOST WITHOUT HER.
