1,100 Attend Outdoor & Rec Sports Show

OLEAN -- The City of Olean and the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce deemed the second annual Greater Olean Area Outdoor & Rec Sports Show held this weekend a continued success with more than 1,100 visitors. The show which featured 47 vendors encompassed the William O. Smith Recreation Center, War Veterans Park, and Bradner Stadium.

The 3-D Archery Stadium Shoot by Windfall Archery on Saturday attracted 19 contestants. Many participated in the Charlie’s Cycle Center Off Road Course and Lake Lane Resort Fishing Pond. A Companion Retriever Hunting Contest (C.R.H.C.) sponsored by Jim Beverly Retriever Training was held with the focus on actual hunting scenarios for both field and water hunting. The William O. Smith Rec Center field and swimming pools were used in the challenge. Ryan Young of Newstead, NY with his dog, Gunner won the Stage Two (higher skill level) and Larry Tarnacki, of Alden, NY with his dog, Jay won the Stage One (beginning level).

The winners of the Greater Olean Area Outdoor and Recreation Sports Show, sponsored by show’s platinum sponsors -- CUTCO Cutlery Corporation, Olean, NY; and Ka-Bar Knives, Olean, NY and Ron’s Gun Shop, Richburg, NY were GRAND PRIZE - Savage M-10GXP .243 Winchester Caliber Package Rifle with a 3-9x40 Scope went to Gary Feuchter of Olean, NY; 2nd PRIZE - CUTCO Ultimate Set, 32 piece cutlery set went to Dennis Deder of Worcester, NY; 3rd PRIZE - 2 Person Charter on Lake Erie or a Steelhead Trip from DayAway Charters went to Bob Grego of The Villages, FL; 4th PRIZE - 2 Person Guided and Filmed Duck Hunt from So. Tier Outfitters and Rush Outdoors, went to Mark Baker of Olean, NY. More than 19 other knifes and hunting items were also awarded.

“This show provided attendees with a wonderful opportunity to learn about outdoor recreational choices, attend meaningful seminars, search for and purchase recreational equipment and accessories, as well as plan experiences the entire family will enjoy,” stated Craig Southard, show co-chair.

“For a first time vendor at this show, Ron’s Gun Shop saw many old faces and many new customers. This show was a great way to get our name out as well as the product lines that we carry at the shop. The many contacts made this weekend will definitely generate sales come hunting season,” stated Ron Smith of Ron’s Gun Shop. Southard added, “The committee was pleased with the attendance, and the number of vendors, seminars, and competitions. The show attracted all family members and provided a wide variety of recreational experiences -- from hunting and fishing, to ATV riding, skateboarding and rock climbing!”
