St. Bona's Women's Soccer Team Wins
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Dakota Carroll (pictured) scored her fifth career goal and sophomore goalkeeper Megan Junker made four saves to preseve her first career shutout as St. Bonaventure (1-0) opened its season with a 1-0 victory over Bucknell (0-1) on Friday.
Carroll converted a giveaway on the Bucknell backline in the 29th minute, which she sent in from 18 yards out for the game's only goal. It marked Carroll's first goal since Sept. 6, 2009 when she scored the tying goal in the Bonnies' 3-1 triumph over visiting Buffalo.
Despite being outshot 11-8 overall, including 7-2 over the final 45 minutes, Bona keeper Megan Junker was up to the task, posting three of her four saves in the second half to preserve the win.
"It's early so we can certainly build off of this [win], but we have to do a better job of playing an entire game and keeping our tempo in possession," said Bonnies coach Manoj Khettry. "they took us out of rhythm and played well, especially in the second half."
St. Bonaventure closes out its first weekend of action with a contest at Kent State on Sunday. The opening kick is slated for 1 p.m.
