Receive Awards from CARE for Children

Senior Judge John H. Yoder was the keynote speaker for the annual meeting of the CARE for Children Board of Directors held Thursday evening at the Bradford Club.

The CARE for Children Board of Directors honored the Bradford Area School District Student Service League and Kinzua Outdoors, Thomas Means Director, with the organization’s Community CARE Award and Kirk Stauffer, PGA Professional with the CARE Volunteer Award.

Mandi Wilton-Davis, Development and Marketing Coordinator at CARE, presented the Student Service League represented by Tim Bean, School Board President, and Sandy Romanowski, Superintendent of Schools with the award.

“The board chose to honor the Bradford Area School District not just because of the philanthropic efforts of the Student Service League, but the everyday efforts of Bradford’s teachers, administrators, and support staff, in partnership with our therapists, who help children with disabilities and delays, realize their potential,” said Davis.

Tina M. Martin, CARE executive director, presented a Community CARE Award to Thomas Means, who accepted on behalf of the Kinzua Outdoors Fishing Tournament.
“Since 2003, Kinzua Outdoors has donated the proceeds from tournaments to the purchase of specialized equipment and supplies for CARE’s therapeutic recreation program,” said Martin. “The board of directors decided to honor Kinzua Outdoors for its outstanding accomplishments to further our mission.”

Mick Marshall, President of the Board of Directors, presented Kirk Stauffer, PGA Golf Pro at Pine Acres Country Club since 1985, with the organization’s CARE Volunteer Award.

“For the last eighteen years Kirk has been instrumental in the success of our golf tournament that benefits community outreach services for children with disabilities. For the last nine years he has donated his time to have an adaptive golf outing for the agency. Many of the kids that participate, but for Kirk, would never step foot on a golf course, let alone swing a club,” stated Marshall.

The Community CARE Awards were established by the Board of Directors in 2003 to recognize outstanding contributions to the agency and to the children and families to whom CARE provides service.
