Gordon 'Swede' Bigley

Gordon D. "Swede" Bigley, 84, of 91 Crosby Crossroad, Smethport, formerly of Rutherford Run, Bradford, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at Lakeview Senior Care & Living Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 16, 1927, in Bradford, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude (Amsler) Bigley.

On June 3, 1950 in DeGolia he married Winzola "Winnie" (Albaugh) Bigley who survives.

Mr. Bigley attended Bradford Schools and had worked for Lawton Oil Company as a pumper. On October 17, 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy, served during WWII and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946.

Mr. Bigley returned to Bradford and worked in the oil fields then later he worked for Kendall Refining Company in the production department and retired from Kendall-Witco as a heavy equipment operator after 36 years of service.

He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Kendall-Witco Corp., Life member of the VFW of Bradford, 60+ Group at the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church and the Crosby American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he was a Cub Master at Custer City, and assistant Scout Master in Custer City.

He was a member of East Smethport United Christian Church and former member of the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church

In addition to his wife of 61 years he is survived by one son, Darrell (Debra) Bigley of Custer City; three daughters, Gayle (Kurt) Weaver of Smethport; Karen Haven of Bradford; and Lori (Richard) Faulkner of Smethport; a sister, Virginia Calhoun of West Chester, a sister in law, Betty Bigley of Derrick City, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John "Jack" Bigley, one sister, Helen McKee, his step mother Helen Bigley, one step sister Marie Porto

Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 2pm to 5pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. East Main St., and again on Monday from 10am to 11:00am at which time funeral and committal services will be held with Rev. Allen Young officiating. Military honors will be accorded after the service by members of the Amerial Legion Post 108. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the East Smethport United Christian Church, the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
