BASD Gets Grant Money

Six area school districts will share nearly $3 million in federal grants to promote literacy efforts.

In making the announcement, Senator Joe Scarnati say the grants will be used to help increase reading achievement, utilize technology to improve literacy and provide new resources to teachers and administrators. 

The school districts and they money they will receive are:

·        Port Allegany School District $452,548

·        Otto-Eldred School District $307,985

·        Bradford Area School District $879,250

·        Brookville Area School District $724,085

·        Clearfield Area School District $70,258

·        Austin Area School District $276,518

 “Improving reading and writing scores in our schools is one of the best ways we can help our kids succeed and be prepared for life after they graduate,” Scarnati said.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Cops: Man Had Sex with 13-Year-Old

A Derrick City man is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. 19-year-old Richie Cromley is charged with statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal solicitation on a computer of a sex act with a child.
