Global Company Hiring More Skilled
Workers with Expansion in Wellsville

WELLSVILLE, N.Y. – Lufkin-RMT, a division of Lufkin Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: LUFK), announced today it will expand its local operations with a move to a new facility near the Wellsville Airport that will enable the company to significantly expand operations.

This expansion will permit the hiring of numerous additional skilled workers over the next several years potentially doubling the current workforce.

The move will nearly double the total square footage of work space available to Lufkin-RMT and also provide options for future expansion on the site, said John Mulryan, Lufkin-RMT general manager.

“Lufkin is a global company whose only manufacturing operation in the Northeast U.S. is in Allegany County, New York,” Mulryan said. “Since Lufkin Industries acquired Lufkin-RMT here three years ago, they have been greatly impressed by the quality of the local workforce and want to build upon our success with a well-designed expansion.”

Lufkin-RMT designs and manufactures precision engineered bearings for rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines, compressors, expanders and gearboxes. Lufkin-RMT also repairs, overhauls, and upgrades complete rotating equipment assemblies such as turbo-expanders and gearboxes. Among its customers are those in the oil and gas and air separation industries.

The company currently employs 60 persons, with the majority being highly skilled machinists. The additional jobs forecasted for the expansion will also primarily be for skilled machinists.

In July 2009, Lufkin purchased Rotating Machinery Technology with two leased facilities at 4181 Bolivar Road and now will move about four miles to a 45,000-square-foot facility at 2475 Tarantine Boulevard. Half of the new site was formerly used by Dresser-Rand for equipment assembly and the other half was vacant.

Major renovations planned at the new facility include a taller roof to better accommodate machine tools and overhead cranes, and an estimated 10,000-square-foot office addition. Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Assisting in the effort were the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency (ACIDA) and Empire State Development (ESD). The package of state and county incentives are valued at $850,000 over a ten-year period of time. The NYS Excelsior Jobs program provided $400,000, while the ACIDA program provided $450,000 in incentives.

“Lufkin-RMT is a prime example of the types of business that can grow and prosper in Allegany County and throughout New York State given their commitment and the support that we can offer,” said Christina Orsi, ESD Western New York Regional Director

“The expansion of Lufkin-RMT in Wellsville serves as an excellent model for how things can be done right with the cooperation of the state, the county and business,” said John Foels, executive director of the Allegany County IDA. “We are pleased with their expansion and their talented workforce and look forward to working with them in the years ahead.”
