Emma Murphey-Sherwin

Emma Murphey-Sherwin, 82, of 16 Edwards Street, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Born April 5, 1930, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Rizzuti) Maletta.

On July 21, 1956 in St. Bernard Church, she married Gerard H. Murphey, who passed away September 18, 1998. On November 30, 2002, she married Bruce Sherwin, who survives.

A 1949 graduate of Bradford Senior High School, she was employed by the former Super Duper and A&P grocery stores. She also worked for National City Bank, from where she retired in 1995.

She was a member of St. Bernard Church, where she served on the Parish Council and belonged to The Catholic Women's Club. She was a member of the LaStella Auxiliary, The Senior Swimming Group and was a volunteer for the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary at Heartstrings Gift Shop.

In addition to her husband Bruce, she is survived by three sons, Steven (Marcia) Murphey, Joseph Murphey and David (Jody) Murphey all of Bradford; three daughters, Cindy Cavallero, Mariann (Rich) Kahle and Catherine (Jeff) Gabel, all of Bradford; one step son Jeff (Karen) Sherwin of Bradford; six grandchildren, Jessica, Rachelle, Kayla, Brett, Lauryn and Laney; three step grandchildren, Kate, Christopher and Josh; a sister-in-law, Barb Maletta and two nephews, Ritch Maynard and Edward Maletta.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Dominic Maletta and two sisters, Mary Maletta and Fran Maynard.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday July 26, 2012 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, East Main St., where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 am Friday July 27, 2012 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bernard Church with Rev. Raymond Gramata, Pastor as Celebrant. Committal services and burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Bradford Catholic School System or the charity of the donor's choice.
