Pirates Recognized for Green Initiative
The Pittsburgh Pirates were invited to the White House Thursday – but not because of the awesome season they’re having so far. The organization was recognized for its “Let’s Go Bucs. Let’s Go Green” initiative.
Pirates Chairman of the Board Bob Nutting participated in a “Sports and Sustainability” forum held by the White House, which focused on the economic and environmental benefits of greening the sports industry.
“Let’s Go Bucs. Let’s Go Green” launched in 2008 and focuses on recycling, conservation and awareness. Last year alone they diverted 78 tons of glass, 18 tons of aluminum cans, 25 tons of plastic, 24 tons of cooking oil and more than 300 tons of other recyclable materials.
