The End of the World as We Know It:
Church Starts New Series
Sunday, September 30, Open Arms Community Church in Bradford, PA, will be launching a four-part series of talks on the end times, with the goal of offering a hopeful and sensible approach to the apocalyptic prophecies.
Christian interpretations of the end times are varied and confusing, and in some cases, have led to some manipulative and destructive teachings, according to Open Arms Pastor Mike McAvoy. "It's sad and disgusting the exploitations and deaths that have taken place in the name of the End of the World. So many people struggle with fear and anxiety about the end of the world, our goal is to put those fears to rest."
McAvoy says that many misguided preachers and cult leaders over the years have used the Book of Revelation innappropriately over the years. "This will not be a typical teaching on the End of the world that you are used to hearing by preachers or doomsday prophets," says McAvoy, "We want to remove the fears people have about the End Times and equip people to protect themselves against false teachings, flakey leaders that would harm them, and those people who would try to exploit them for personal gain. "
The church will celebrate its 10th anniversary on October 7th, and is planning a special celebration service. "Open Arms is a come as you are church, because we believe God loves everyone no matter who they are, where they've been, or what they've done. We are not a stay as you are church, because Jesus said he came to give us 'life to the full' or life at it's best and they will not be experienced without change," says McAvoy.
TEOTWAWKI: The End of The World As We Know It will kick off Sunday morning at 9:15 or 11 a.m. For more information, visit www.openarmsbradford.org
