Vangorden Trial Underway But Ends Early Friday
When Trooper Gets in Car Crash
Friday’s court session for a man accused of trying to kill two New York State troopers came to an early end when one of the troopers was involved in a car crash on the way to court.
38-year-old Richard Vangorden is accused of trying to shoot and kill the troopers during a high-speed chase in Hornellsville in September of last year. Vangorden then held police at bay for three hours in a Wellsville trailer park until they forced him out with tear gas.
Vangorden could face life in prison if convicted. The trial will continue Monday, and could last up to two weeks.
The state trooper involved in the car crash was not seriously hurt.
