Car Crashes into Church

A car crashed into a church early Thursday morning in Allegany County.

State police say 21-year-old Alek Potter of Hume was on Route 19 at around 2:45 a.m. when the car went off the road, hit a sign and then hit the foundation of the church.

Potter was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he is in critical condition. His passenger, Christopher Jones of Fillmore, had surgery at ECMC in Buffalo, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers are continuing their investigation, and say speeding and alcohol may be factors.
