Ronald Burritt Sr.

Ronald D. Burritt Sr., 80, of 310 Seaward Ave., Bradford, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 at The Pavilion at BRMC, surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 23, 1932 in North Hornell NY, he was a son of the late Arthur S. and Pearl L. (Bowkett Burritt. He attended Bradford High School.

On January 9, 1952 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Europe and in Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the European Occupational Medal, the Korean Occupational Medal. He was honorably discharged on January 9, 1956.

On June 22, 1957 in the Bolivar Drive Baptist Church, he married Olive G. (Weaver) Burritt, who died on November 5, 2009.

After the service he worked at Dresser Rand for 10 years, later as a postal carrier for the United States Post Office for 32 years. For many years he worked two jobs and they were at J.C. Penneys, and Singers Furniture Store. After retirement he worked at Owl Homes of Allegany.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.He was a former member of the the Masonic Lodge F&AM, Orak Gratto, Bradford Moose Lodge, Bradford Township Lion Club, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a volunteer at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Surviving are two daughters, Terry (Matthew) Blackmon, of Washington NC, Debra (Terry) Daughenbaugh, of Bradford, three sons, Ronald (Linda) Burritt Jr., of Bradford, John (the late Diane) Burritt, of Kane, and Rick (Terri) Burritt, of Bradford, one brother Roger (Pat) Burritt of Bradford, 11 grandchildren; Blake Blackmon, Amber Blackmon, Jamie Burritt, Andrew Burritt, Johnathon Burritt, Michael Burritt, Bradley Daughenbaugh, Ryan Daughenbaugh, Alex Daughenbaugh, Stephanie Burritt, and Alan Burritt, 8 great grandchildren; Kozmo and Zeke Blackmon, Riley, Kaleigh, and Conner Gaskins, Oliver, Tristan, and Waylon Burritt, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one grandson Joseph Richard Burritt, one sister Eleanor Harper, four brothers Arthur, Theadore, Charles, and Robert Burritt.

Family will be receiving friends Wednesday December 12, 2012 from 3-5pm & 7-9pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. South Ave., where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 13, 2012 with Rev. Tom Verner pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
