'East of the Sun' Cast Announced
Eight of the 12 roles in the two-act comedy will be played by performers making their BLT debut.
William Glennon's script is an adaptation of a Norwegian folk tale about young Snowdrop rescuing a prince from being forced either to marry an ugly princess or to remain a polar bear in the daytime.
Portraying Ancilla the greedy Ice Witch will be Embrissa Wingard who has acted in a number of her church and school shows. Her nefarious assistant, the “not quite human” Hob will be Cordon Laroche, a BLT and BAHS stage veteran.
Hannah Leposa will bring to life the Princess of the Long Nose; a veteran of local school productions, she was most recently seen as Renfield in the BAHS Drama Club’s “Dracula.” Heroine Snowdrop will be played by Rawny Reed, who has appeared in a variety of Williamsport area productions including “The Vagina Monologues.” Codi Stroup, also last seen in “Dracula” has been cast as the hero, Prince Nordo.
Connie Shanks, last seen in BLT’s “Charlotte’s Web” will be Poppa. Portraying magical sisters Brill and Hug will be newcomer Chelsea Place and returning BLTer Lori Johnson, respectively.
Rounding out the cast will be Steph McFall, Cailie Shanks, Everly Wingard and Caleb Leet as trolls of water, fire, air and earth, respectively.
All cast members but McFall are residents of Bradford.
Co-directors are Diane Kerner Arnett and Ann Dunkerton; assistant director is Michael McLanahan.
The production crew will be led by Nanci K. Garris, stage manager and set designer; light design by Shane Oschman; sound design by Ron Johnson; make-up design by Kathy Bryant; stage crew leader Nancy Coder; sound effects by Pottsy; assistant set designer Jeremy Garris; and hair by Gerri Burrs of The Hairpen.
Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Bradford Area High School. It is produced through special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company.
In conjunction with the show, BLT is sponsoring a county-wide art contest open to the public with winners’ work to be exhibited in the lobby. Also, at Friday’s opening curtain the Lester Brauser Community Theatre Appreciation Award will be presented and on Sunday, county 4-H volunteers will be recognized.
