Hikers Lost, Then Found in Catt County

Two people camping out with a Boy Scout troop got lost while hiking on Saturday, but police and other agencies were able to find them.

State Police say they got the report at 10 p.m. about the hikers in the area of Bolton Road in the Town of Ashford, according to a news release obtained by WESB.

With the terrain being very dangerous, the extreme cold and inclement weather, Trooper Dean Nolte and K9 Officer Nugent, with the assistance of New York State Forest Ranger Officer Rogers, began to track the area with K9 Nugent leading the way. They found the hikers at about 1:30 a.m. on the south bank of Cattaraugus Creek, about three miles from the Boy Scouts.

They were evaluated by West Valley Ambulance personnel, and were both OK.
