New Phone Scam Making the Rounds

State Attorney General Kathleen Kane is warning Pennsylvanians about another phone scam that’s sweeping the state.

In this scam, the automated call from a toll-free number tells the person that a hold has been placed on his or her credit or debit card, and then tells the person to press “1” and entered the credit card number to continue, and take care of the problem.

Kane says credit card companies will not ask people to give their information this way. She also reminds people to not give out personal information over the phone.

That reminds me of the text message I received supposedly from my bank. It said my account was suspended due to suspicious activities and that I needed to call a different phone number to reinstate it. But I know for sure that banks do not use automated messages to inform customers about security issues on their account so what I did was report the scam and the sender's phone number to Callercenter to warn others. I also submitted an online complaint to the FTC.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges

Two people were arrested on drug charges after state police got a report about unauthorized use of a vehicle. Troopers found the vehicle in Randolph on Wednesday and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Bridget Bardo of Conewango, for aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled to appear in Town of Randolph Court. Her passenger, 28-year-old Andrew Jaquish of Salamanca, was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. A Derrick City man is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. 19-year-old Richie Cromley is charged with statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal solicitation on a computer of a sex act with a child.
