Accidental Shooting at Kinzua Bridge State Park

A 27-year-old man who was working on the new Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitors Center accidentally shot himself in the leg Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the Cuba, New York, man who they did not name was sitting in his vehicle when the gun went off as he was moving it. The bullet hit his left hamstring and went out of his leg through the calf.
The site supervisor heard the shot, saw the man slumped near his vehicle and used a belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. An off-duty paramedic who was visiting the park also helped in treating the man, who was eventually flown to UPMC Hamot.
An accidental shooting has been reported at Kinzua Bridge State Park.
A landing zone for a trauma patient has been set up in the park’s overflow parking lot.
The incident happened at about 3:40 p.m.
