Art Exhibit: Through the Eyes of Alzheimer’s

At the Art on Main Gallery through February 22, 2019:

“Through the Eyes of Alzheimer’s” is a series of works by Carol Krieger from her sessions in art therapy. Carol is an artist who worked in traditional tole painting, so art therapy is the perfect continuation of a familiar practice. The exhibition will include paintings that Carole has copied next to her renditions.

Studies show that art therapy gives back in part, what Alzheimer’s has taken away. It stimulates the senses and encourages conversation. More than providing patients something pretty to look at or an exercise to keep them busy, it stimulates the brain, stirring memories. Whether they’re viewing or creating art themselves, Alzheimer’s patients can use it as a form of expression, particularly those individuals who can’t communicate verbally.

The Art on Main Gallery is open Monday through Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Thursdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends.
