ARG Wins Governor's ImPAct Award
Hershey – Team Pennsylvania Foundation (Team PA) President Laura Williams has recognized 50 outstanding Pennsylvania companies and entrepreneurs for creating jobs, developing ideas, expanding into new markets and making positive contributions in local communities at the 2015 Governor’s ImPAct Awards. “Today we celebrate Pennsylvanians who work hard every day to help their workers thrive, to grow their companies, and to improve the communities in which they live.” said Ms. Williams. “All of these things, one day, one place at a time, help to make Pennsylvania better.” The Governor’s ImPAct Awards recognized 50 companies at the Hershey Lodge from throughout the state in five categories: Jobs That Pay, Community Impact, Small Business Impact, Entrepreneurial Impact and Export Impact. Two Hurt in ARG Incident
Two American Refining Group electricians were hurt this morning when an electrical flash occurred during routine work being performed at the Crude Unit motor control center. One was taken by medical helicopter to ECMC in Buffalo. The other was taken by ambulance to Bradford Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Their families have been notified. ARG Communications Coordinator Sara Furlong says very few details about the incident are known at this time, but a complete incident investigation will be conducted. Senators Announce Formation of
Pennsylvania’s First Rural Regional Community College
HARRISBURG) – The Pennsylvania Department of Education has taken steps to establish Pennsylvania’s first Rural Regional Community College, announced Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25), Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) and Senator Scott Hutchinson (R-21). According to the legislators, the newly created community college is being established with the goal of offering two-year associate degrees, as well as training and certificate programs to underserved areas of the Commonwealth. Curriculum of the college will be determined by the Board of Trustees, based upon the future workforce needs of the designated region of Cameron, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, McKean, Potter, Venango and Warren counties. “I am very excited that groundwork for launching the Rural Regional Community College is now in place,” Senator Scarnati stated. “This will be the first community college to offer greatly needed higher educational opportunities to northwestern Pennsylvania. Chamber Auction Set for October 30
Presented by the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce and Signature Sponsor American Refining Group, Inc, the BACC Oktoberfest/22nd Annual Public Auction will be held on Thursday, October 30th at The Bradford Club, 32 Boylston Street, Bradford. This community event, open to local businesses, organizations, and the public, is the Chamber’s primary fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the many services provided by the Chamber. The doors open to the public at 5:30 pm; with the live auction beginning at 6:30pm. Through the generous donation of products, services, and more, an exciting variety of items has been put together for the event, which will feature approximately 30 fantastic live auction packages, as well as silent auctions, pretzel drawings, and a 50/50 card drawing. United Way at 60 Percent of Goal
Yesterday we told you on the air that the United Way of the Bradford Area was at 53 percent of its campaign goal. Well, that news is outdated already. Bradford Area School District, Zippo Manufacturing Co., American Refining Group Inc. and Northwest Savings Bank have so far been the champions of the United Way of the Bradford Area’s latest campaign. Officials announced Friday that, just more than a month into its 2014 Be a Champion campaign, they have already raised 60 percent of the $345,000 goal. School district staff members increased their contributions by nearly 50 percent, while both Zippo and ARG also recorded significant increases in their employee campaigns. ARG Bridge Work on North Kendall Starts Monday
Work to replace a bridge at American Refining Group Inc. (ARG) will intermittently delay traffic along North Kendall Avenue between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday. The span to be installed will reach 140 feet across the Tuna Creek to the refinery’s new railcar-loading rack at the Erie Wye on the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad, just north of the Kendall Avenue bridge. The new bridge will support the piping necessary to service the loading rack and will allow personnel to cross in order to perform daily functions there. Traffic could be stopped for as long as 5 to 10 minutes at a time. Arrangements have been made to have extra staff on hand for safety and to control traffic during the project. Motorists should plan to avoid North Kendall Avenue on Monday unless absolutely necessary. Any impact to school buses and emergency vehicles will be minimized as much as possible. 20th Year of ISO Certification
SAI Global, an ANAB accredited organization, recently completed the audit that marks the 20th year of certification for the Bradford, PA based oil refinery. In 1994, the Bradford Refinery became the first refinery in the USA to carry the esteemed ISO 9002 certification and has continued to meet the strict requirements for the past 20 years. Most recently the company met the criteria needed to utilize the ISO 9001:2008 seal. “It is cause for celebration,” stated Jennifer Taylor, Marketing Communications Manager for American Refining Group. “The fact that our refinery continues to meet the criteria for maintaining the ISO Certification speaks to the dedication of our employees and Leadership Team in providing consistent quality products and services to our customers.” ISO 9000 (International Organization for Standardization) was first published in 1987, and has become a mandatory requirement for many purchasers. St. Marys Companies Receive ImPAct Awards
Several Elk County companies have received Governor’s ImPAct Awards. GKN Sinter Metals, which has facilities in St. Marys and Kersey, as well as Emporium in Cameron County, received a Community Impact Award. Penn Pallet in St. Marys received an Entrepreneur Award. Metco Industries of St. Marys received a Jobs First Award. St. Marys Carbon received a Small Business Impact Award. American Refining Group, Kessel Construction, Luminite and B&T Contractors in Bradford, as well as Zook Motors and Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Kane were finalists for the awards. DEP Officials Tour McKean County Wells
State DEP Secretary Christopher Abruzzo and other agency officials met with several McKean County oil and gas producers and area lawmakers recently to learn more about the differences between conventional and unconventional drilling and how proposed regulations impact them differently. State Rep. Marty Causer says they visited a site in Hamilton Township outside of Kane, where a well was being actively drilled; Big Shanty Road in Lafayette Township, where a conventional well was being fracked; the Penn-Brad Oil Museum; an old-time well site in Ottow Township in the Village of Rixford; and American Refining Group. Causer will be introducing legislation soon that would ensure that regulations for conventional and unconventional drillers are different, and will not negatively impact the conventional drillers. Chamber Presents Annual Awards
Moments to Remember, CARE for Children and Jeannine Schoenecker were recognized during Thursday's annual Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. Moments to Remember received the Exemplary Business Award, CARE for Children received the Community & Spirit Award. Schoenecker received the Director's Award and talked about the importance of paying it forward.
