Gerrit Cole struck out 10 batters in 8 1/3 innings to lead the Pirates to a 4-1 win over the Mets Friday night. He gave up only six hits – all singles – and lowered his ERA to 2.05. Chris Stewart had two hits and an RBI for Pittsburgh. Jung Ho Kang, Pedro Alvarez and Gregory Polanco also drove in runs as the Pirates dropped New York to 7-13 on the road. Prince Fielder smacked two homers, drove in four runs and helped the Texas Rangershold off the New York Yankees 10-9 Friday night for their third straight win. The Yankees have lost four in a row and eight of nine. Brandon Moss homered and drove in three runs, while Carlos Carrasco allowed two runs in six innings to help the Indians earn a 7-3 win over Cincinnati. It was Cleveland’s fourth win in a row and sixth in eight games. Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1. The Phillies have lost three of four after winning six in a row. Bradford’s Zach Foster made his debut with the Pirates’ Bradenton Marauders Friday. Foster pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. AJ Burnett, who is on a rehab assignment in Bradenton, started the game and went 4 2/3 innings giving up one run and striking out 5. The Marauders lost the game 5-1 to the St. Lucie Mets. St. Bonaventure redshirt junior Eddie Gray was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday following a weekend in which he tossed seven shutout innings as part of a 12-0 win over Fordham last Friday afternoon. Gray limited the visiting Rams to just two hits – the fewest allowed by the Pulaski, N.Y., native in his career when pitching at least seven innings. Gray struck out seven Fordham batters, including a stretch of five straight spanning the 1st and 2nd innings to set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The southpaw faced three batters over the minimum and needed just 92 pitches to get through his seven innings as he earned his team-leading third win of the season (3-1) and lowered his team-best ERA to 2.95. Gray, Bonaventure's No. 1 starter, is allowing opposing batters to hit just .274 against him and has tossed a team-leading 42.2 innings so far this season in six starts.
