A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car early Sunday morning in Cameron County. Police say a car driven by 21-year-old Kaitlyn Crosby of Emporium hit two men who were walking along Old West Creek Road in Shippen Township at just after 3 a.m. 62-year-old David Croyle Jr. of Emporium was pronounced dead at the scene. 25-year-old Patrick Hornung, also of Emporium, was taken to Penn Highlands Elk for treatment of serious injuries. Bath salts, a gun and drug paraphernalia were among the items police say they found in an Emporium man’s house last week. 59-year-old Gary Boyer is facing multiple charges after marijuana, smoking devices, a pill grinder and digital scales, as well as the bath salts were found. Police say he also had a .22 caliber pistol with the serial number removed. Boyer is in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

The effort to turn an abandoned rail corridor into a recreational trail is receiving assistance through a Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) grant, according to state Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk). “The 75th Legislative District includes some of the most scenic parts of Pennsylvania,” Gabler said. “Developing this area between Cameron and Elk counties will result in additional opportunities for outdoor recreation and allow more people to see more of our beautiful countryside.” The $150,000 grant will be used for Phase Two of the project, which involves an area between St. Marys and Rathbun. West Creek Recreational Trail Association applied for the grant as part of its effort to develop a trail for pedestrians, bicyclists, cross country skiers and snowmobilers that runs from St. Marys to Emporium, Cameron County. An Emporium man was seriously hurt in a one-vehicle crash Saturday on Cowley Hill Road in Potter County. Police say a pickup truck driven by 63-year-old Edward Beldin went out of control on a curve, hit an embankment, went back onto the road, flipped onto its roof and spun around before coming to rest blocking both lanes of the road. Beldin was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed and not staying in his lane. Dorothy J. Chirillo, 77, of 130 Kennedy Street, Bradford, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at UPMC Hamot, Erie surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 28, 1936, in Emporium, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mabel Striech Gennocro. She was a graduate of the Cameron County High School, Emporium. On June 28, 1958, she married Egidio D. “Gino” Chirillo who preceded her in death on January 11, 2001. She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and she also enjoyed cooking. Mrs. Chirillo and her husband were the former co-owners of the Colonial Hotel, Smethport. In Bradford they were the former co-owners of various restaurants including: The Brook Club, Togi’s Drive-in (which they started), Togi’s Old Barn, Dante’s at the Bradford Mall, Gino’s at the former Howard Johnsons, Gino’s Steakhouse and Gino’s at the DeSoto Motel. The 61-year-old man told troopers an envelope containing $2,000 was taken from his home sometime between 10:30 last Tuesday morning and 7 o'clock Friday morning. Minor injuries were reported after a three-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon near Tack’s Inn. Police say 51-year-old Alice Valenti of Austin was at the intersection of routes 219 and 59 when she didn’t yield the right-of-way to 46-year-old Diana Rankin of Mount Jewett and the cars collided. The impact caused Rankin’s car to cross lanes, where it was hit by a vehicle driven by Fred Angell of Bradford. Rankin suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment. Valenti was cited for not stopping at a stop sign. ~~~ A Hinsdale woman was charged after a one-vehicle crash Saturday in Lafayette Township. Police say 32-year-old Jody Kenjocketty was traveling north on Route 219 when she lost control of her vehicle and drove off the road. The vehicle came to rest in a ditch. A woman who was pulled over for a traffic stop over the weekend is now facing drug charges. Police say they pulled over 28-year-old Christina Uber of St. Marys Friday night near the Emporium Borough Building on East Second Street for a summary vehicle code violation. They soon learned she had bath salts and drug paraphernalia with her. Uber is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. After firing a gun at a pickup truck early Friday morning, a Smethport man is spending the rest of his holiday weekend in McKean County Jail. Police say 40-year-old Damin Parris was drunk when he shot the truck in the yard of a West Valley Road home at around 2 a.m. The victims, a Smethport woman and Emporium man, left the scene and called police about an hour later. Parris is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, along with simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief. Two people were hurt in a crash Thursday afternoon in Cameron County. Police say 52-year-old John Vanini of Olean was traveling west on Route 120 when his car drifted across the center line while rounding a curve and hit the front end of an eastbound pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Charles Lamenia of Warminster. Lamenia was taken by Emporium ambulance to Penn Highlands Elk for treatment of moderate injuries. Vanini suffered minor injuries, and was issued a traffic citation. Two people were hurt in a one-car crash early Sunday morning on Route 120 in Cameron County. Police say a car driven by Ann Barnhart of Emporium, went off the road, hit an embankment and rolled onto its roof. Barnhart was taken to Penn Highlands Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. Someone took money from the Borough of Emporium earlier this year, but no charges will be field. State police say the person took money from the borough building between January 16 and February 11 for personal use, but has since made restitution. An Emporium man is in jail for attempting to steal from a vehicle and other charges. State police charged 25-year-old Michael Chmelar with criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, vandalism and driving under the influence, as well as attempted theft. The alleged incident happened Friday in the GKN parking lot on Cameron Road in Cameron County. He was sent to Potter County Jail on $10,000 bail. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

An Emporium man is accused of stealing cable TV service from Zito Media, but the cable company doesn’t want him prosecuted. Police didn’t released the man’s name, but say he tampered with Zito’s junction box to an East 4th Street apartment building and ran television cable from the box into the building. An Emporium woman has pleaded guilty to charges filed after the man she was with allegedly robbed an Erie bank back in January. 29-year-old Jessica Grovanz was charged with providing false identification and possession of a controlled substance. She was with 40-year-old Aaron Carpenter of Erie, who is accused of going into a Citizens Bank branch on Peach Street and sliding the teller a note demanding cash. A Duncansville, PA, man is accused of trying to buy a gun illegally from an Emporium store. Police say 43-year-old Todd Marlin tried to buy the gun despite being prohibited from buying firearms. The gun dealer at Wheaton Gun Supply refused to sell the gun to Marlin and contacted state police. He’s scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 27. An Emporium woman is jail in connection to a bank robbery in Erie on Thursday afternoon. 28-year-old Jessica Grovanz is not charged with the robbery but was with the man who police say did rob the Citizens Bank on Peach Street of more than $1,100. 40-year-old Aaron Carpenter and Grovanz sped away from police after the robbery and took police on a chase for several blocks until their car went through a stop sign and was hit by an SUV. Carpenter and Grovanz ran from the car but were quickly caught by police. Grovanz is charged with receiving stolen property, giving false identification to law enforcement and a number of drug offenses. She’s jailed on $50,000 bond.
