A Derrick City man is facing indecent assault charges for having inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old girl. Court records say 66-year-old Roy Barclay put his hands down the girl’s pants between March and September of last year in Otto Township. Barclay is free on $20,000 bail. More than a dozen bridges in McKean County – including one in Bradford – will be replaced under Pennsylvania’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. PennDOT Secretary Barry Schoch announced today that the agency has finalized terms for the $899 million project that will replace 558 bridges across the state. The Bennett Brook Bridge in Bradford, Shep Run Road bridges in Custer City, and the Pennbrook and Foster Brook bridges in Derrick City are among those targeted for replacement. Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners and its team of 11 Pennsylvania-based subcontractors will lead the project, and will be responsible for getting the money to start replacing the bridges, as well as maintenance for 25 years after construction. A tractor trailer had a three-hour delay this morning after – first – getting stuck on Red Rock Hill at around 6:30. When Derrick City firefighters got there they found that the truck was against the guard rails and blocking 1 ½ lanes of traffic. Because of the hazardous conditions, the road was shut down and PennDOT was called to bring sand to the scene. They were able to free the truck, but it got stuck several more times on the way to the top of the hill, and then got stuck again on Summit Road. A woman is accused of putting a nine-year-old boy in a choke hold. Police say 30-year-old Jamie Jackson of Mount Jewett also pushed the boy’s head into a door, causing a goose egg on his head and scratches on his neck. The alleged incident happened in October at Jackson’s former home in Derrick City. Jackson is charged with assault and is free on $10,000 unsecured bail. Bad weather is being blamed for two one-car accidents early this morning on Bolivar Drive. Derrick City firefighters were called at 4:40 a.m. and at just after 6 a.m. with reports of cars into a ditch. They say neither driver was hurt, and both vehicles were able to be driven away after being pulled out. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A pickup truck crashed into a house next to the Perkins restaurant parking lot at just before 11 o’clock this morning. The driver was able to get out of the truck with some help from Derrick City firefighters, and wasn't hurt. There is significant damage to the house that was hit but no people were hurt. The crash ruptured a water main and all utilities to the house were shut off as a precautionary measure. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

UPDATE (Friday morning): The fire is being considered suspicious, and Agosti says they are still investigating. City Fire Department Assistant Chief Rich Zmuda tells WESB that firefighters and four state police fire marshals -- three from PA and one from NY -- left the scene of the South Avenue fire at about 9 p.m. The cause is still under investigation and he expects PSP Cpl. Greg Agosti to issue a news release either later tonight or tomorrow. The New York fire marshal was called in because he has a fire-investigating dog whose services were needed. More than 40 firefighters from the city, Bradford Township and Derrick City battled the blaze at 103 South Avenue, starting at about 7:45 a.m. Neighbors heard an explosion shortly before that. The fire spread to 105 South Avenue, where it melted the siding and did other damage. No one was hurt. We'll pass along more information when we get it.

A Duke Center man is dead after his boat capsized on Chautauqua Lake. State police say 69-year-old Robert Knell Sr. and 65-year-old Roy Barclay of Derrick City were fishing on Friday when their boat flipped over because of high winds and heavy rain. A man and his son, who were also fishing, got Knell and Barclay out of the water and onto a dock. Knell and Barclay, who were both wearing life jackets, were both taken to WCA Hospital in Jamestown for treatment of exposure but Knell later died of oxygen deprivation. A Derrick City man has pleaded guilty to attempted homicide after holding a couple against their will in their home this past September. 62-year-old Gary Patrick, armed with two handguns, entered the home of Christine and David Taylor and threatened to kill them. After a confrontation and struggle, David Taylor was able to disarm Patrick twice. Patrick remains in McKean County Jail on $500,000 bail and is scheduled for sentencing on May 22. A Derrick City man is facing charges after being stopped on Interstate 80 near DuBois with a load of contaminated food. Police say 19-year-old Ezekeil Groff was driving a commercial vehicle for McKean Transport of Derrick City and transporting seafood, yogurt, and other dairy products. An inspection of the vehicle revealed that the food was not on a shipping order and was being shipped at an unsafe temperature. Police destroyed the food and are continuing their investigation. A Bradford man is facing a couple of charges following what started as a domestic incident early Sunday morning in Derrick City. 35-year-old Neil Burrs is charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person following the incident that had Foster and Bradford township police as well as Bradford City Police responding. As Foster Township police were on their way to the house, a neighbor called the McKean County 911 Center to report that he’d heard seven shots from the garage area. Police later found five spent 9mm casings on the back porch, according to papers sent to WESB by District Judge Rich Luther’s office. While searching the house, police found Burrs’ child sleeping in one of the bedrooms, 36-year-old Jayson Foster in another bedroom, and some suspected marijuana on the floor. Burrs is free on unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear in McKean County Central Court on Thursday. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Derrick City man has pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from an Olean business while he worked there. 36-year-old Jared Lindstrom took more than $21,000 from Valley Tire Company on North Union Street between October of 2011 and August of last year. He is scheduled for sentencing on May 12 in Cattaraugus County Court. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

The Shults Auto Group launched their Heroes program earlier this year in an effort to strengthen their commitment to the communities where they have dealerships. Donation objectives were established at all dealerships who would retain a portion of each vehicle sale to support the various local charities and organizations in their community. Customers purchasing a vehicle were given a choice of several organizations that they could support and their donations were accumulated for the various organizations during the four month long program. As a result, twenty one different organizations and charities, as selected by Shults dealerships, will share a portion of a substantial amount in donations. Attempted homicide charges have now been filed against the man accused of breaking into the house of his former boss and threatening him and his wife with guns. 61-year-old Gary Patrick of Derrick City allegedly threatened David and Christine Taylor on the night of September 23. David Taylor was able to get the guns away from Patrick both times he threatened them. In addition to attempted homicide, Patrick is charged with aggravated assault, criminal trespass, burglary, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon. Police are also investigating an arson at a camp near Patrick’s home where they say they found more evidence against him. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Derrick City man is accused of going to the home of his former employer and threatening him and his wife with guns. According to papers filed in District Judge Rich Luther’s office, at about 8:50 last night 61-year-old Gary Patrick entered the home of David and Christine Taylor unannounced while carrying a loaded .44 Magnum pistol and approached David, who knew him as a former employee. Taylor was able to wrestle the gun from him. Christine heard them, went downstairs, took the gun and hid it. The Taylors then talked to Patrick for a period of time and learned he was upset because he thought David “did him wrong.” At one point he threatened to kill himself and the Taylors saying, “If I kill myself I’ll go to Hell, so why not take a couple people with me? Would Hell be any worse then?” They asked him about his pension and offered him $40, and then Christine asked him to leave. He refused and when she picked up the phone to call police Patrick pulled out another gun and pointed it ...

Motorists in Foster Township will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit as they travel on Route 646 (Olean Road) in Derrick City. PennDOT recently placed a radar-controlled speed display sign in this area to aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic in the southbound lane. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The posted speed limit in this area of Route 646 is 45 miles per hour. The speed display sign will remain on location for up to three weeks. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating. Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in more than 48 percent of McKean County crashes in 2012. The news leader of the Twin Tiers ... since 1947

A Derrick City woman and four Salamanca men are facing charges following an investigation into the sale and trafficking of drugs in Salamanca, and other parts of Cattaraugus County. Nichole Gilbert, Travis Doner, Michael Walters, Reginald Crouse and Douglas Farnham are charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, and related offenses. The Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force says they were arrested following a search warrant at Doner’s home, where they found a substantial amount of cocaine and marijuana. Two other people were also indicted, but have not been picked up yet. Todd Green is believed to be in the Irving, New York, area while Thomas Doner is believed to be in the Salamanca or Randolph area. Bradford –PennDOT has placed lane restrictions on a bridge on Route 646 in Foster Township in order to make repairs. The bridge spans Pennbrook Run about a mile north of the Olean Road intersection. In order for PennDOT McKean County Maintenance to make the beam repairs, the bridge was restricted to one lane today. Self-regulating stop signs are enforcing an alternating traffic pattern. Work is expected to last through September, depending on weather. Drivers are reminded to proceed through work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up. At least one person was hurt in an accident at about 12:45 this morning at the intersection of Olean Road and Derrick Road when a vehicle crashed into a tree. Mercy Flight was called in to transport a person to an out-of-town hospital. Olean Road was closed during the investigation and cleanup. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
